Yay MIL

...And by "yay," I mean ihatechu. She called an ambulance to take her to the hospital for vomiting the night before last... Hmm... exactly like she did LAST October. She called Matt yesterday because she wants him to come pick her up and take her home today. Exactly like last October.

Tuesdays are Matt's late night at work, so he can never take them off unless he trades with a coworker ahead of time. He also had to go in early for a meeting today, so he's working an 11-hour day. And on top of that, we're still working on getting all of his car issues straightened out. So he told her no last night.

She called him again today and asked "So you can't get off today?" He told her no. Then she called AGAIN and directly asked him to take the day off, right after he told her that he couldn't. He says that he's not returning the call. I'm so proud of him. Smile

Re: Yay MIL

  • Well good for Matt for putting his foot down!!!  Maybe she'll start realizing that she can't rely on him for everything.  He's not going to jump every time she says she needs him to drop everything for her!!

  • Yes   Way to go, Matt!  How frustrating of her but awesome that he's standing his ground on this - esp with his work schedule being as it is today.

(Is there something about this time of year that triggers her behavior? Strange how the same thing happened last October as well).

  • She's a piece of work! I'm really sorry you have to deal with her kelly, yay for Matt taking a stand though!

Oh, I know! He's so good about it now. I look back on their whole relationship three years ago and I can't believe how much progress he's made. He had several conversations with her during our engagement about how he had other responsibilities and would not be able to take care of her or support her or go running up there every time she needed something. She got a lot better after that.

She's always worse for the "holidays"-- October through the end of January. Also, he did make an exception last week and do her a favor, which is never a great idea. The favor in itself was perfectly reasonable, but EVER giving in gets her thinking that he'll do what she wants. He's doing so well, but consistency is always hard for him-- probably because he grew up in a household run by somebody like her!

  • I am so proud of Matt! Kudos to him for being strong and doing what's right.
  • Doing a happy dance!!!! Yay Matt! I would do something special for him standing up to her. Geez Louise that woman is a crazy person!!!
  • Good for Matt!  :)
