EDIT:.... just realized my crazy misspelling in the subject line. "Preganant."  oh my.  So I changed it.

Re: Pregnant Ladies...

  • Holy Cow! I am calling MUD....there is no way someone would spend that much money on a 1st bday, right? Thats just crazy...and seriously why can't she take photos of her on her bday? Some people leave me looking like this Indifferent
  • It most definitely isn't MUD, but it is a cultural thing.  It's crazy and should be MUD, one would think :)

First my first birthday, there were over a hundred people--and since there were two of us, there was double of a lot of stuff.  Five foot pi?atas, a band, lots of gifts of gold jewelry and diamonds, and I don't know what else.  Plus, hospitality for that many people adds up.  I've seen the pictures to know my parents weren't exagerating (sp) when they told the story.  Think of it as a party to build a child's dowry.

    Matt loves Munkii!!!
  • I agree with the ladies who responded that it was inappropriate to number drop, though, even though it is cultural. And, if you are doing good, you shouldn't need a pat on the back from internet strangers.

I'm quite sure Liam's first birthday will be cake with our family and close friends...not a $5,000 extravaganza. I can only imagine that might pay for a book or two by the time he gets to college.

  • Very tacky of her to talk about how much she is donating!  It definitely is a cultural thing to go all out on the baby's 1st birthday.  I know we will probably have a big party (because turning 1 is huge in my husband's culture) but there is no way we will spend anything close to that amount on a party.
