I know there are quite a bit of you on here that have vacationed in Mexico. DH and I are celebrating our 5 year next summer and have yet to take a honeymoon. So this would be the perfect time no?The only thing is although I have lived close to the border I have never once vacationed down south. Surprising I know. I would prefer to stay away from Cancun since when we are planning on going is around April. Where are some other awesome vacationing places down south? Plus if you could also include some information is you booked inclusive and how. I really like to start planning well in advance so we can start saving money for this. TIA ladies!
Re: Advice about vacations
DH and I spent our honeymoon at the Wyndham Grand Aura in Cozumel. It's an all-inclusive, adults-only boutique resort with less than 90 suites. There are 4 restaurants, room-service is included (we ordered breakfast in bed every morning) and they don't do buffets, it's all off of a menu. They have premium liquor (not watered don't like at some Mexican resorts). They have a sister resort next door with an amazing spa where we got a couples massage. It's way down the beach from other "party" resorts, but there is a Carlos & Charles a quick walk away if you want to experience it in a smaller dose.
We got a 3rd floor suite (which I highly recommend) that had a roof-top private lap pool and 2nd full bathroom. The staff was AMAZING-- the chef at the beach bar was so awesome he made DH rack of lamb, salmon and crab legs, etc. for LUNCH. haha I know you can book through applevacations.com but we used a travel agent and she got us a better deal... www.travelcafeplus.com (We went in June which is toward the end of the season, and it was $2800 w/ airfare for 6 nights- we flew out of St. Louis though, so it might be a bit more from OKC.)
Happy planning!! HTH
I've been to Cozumel a few times, and I really like it. It's an island, so it's smaller and doesn't have that "Cancun" feel. My favorite thing about it is that the Atlantic side of the island isn't really inhabited at all because there's no electricity over there. It's great to rent a Jeep or something and drive over to that side for a day and stop at some of the bars on the beach. It's gorgeous!
Another thought would be the Mayan Riviera, which is south of Cancun near Playa del Carmen. It's a great area for adults.
And even though I haven't been there, I've heard great things about Puerto Vallarta too. It is on the Pacific side.
Would personally not recommend Cabo. It was okay, but nowhere I'm interested in going ever again.
If you're willing to consider destinations outside of Mexico, I would love to make another suggestion: St. Lucia. We just got back, and oh man was it gorgeous! We stayed at an all-inclusive couples-only boutique resort that was just utterly amazing called Rendezvous. They just got done with a multi-million dollar renovation, and it was the most beautiful, relaxing resort I've ever been to, and the island is to-die-for. I would love to go back someday.

Bloggy
Here's my Mexican opinion:
Cabo - Sucks
Puerto Vallarta - Sucks
Cancun - Too Touristy (sucks)
Playa del Carmen - Beaches are beautiful but there are much better places in the Caribbean for beautiful beaches.
Have you considered going somewhere a bit more secluded like Belize or Costa Rica? There are some great deals out there right now.
