Favorite wine store in NYC?

Looking for some new wine stores to check out.  Apparently, I have expensive and particular taste in wine even though I am a completely uneducated in wine stuff.

What is your favorite place for wines?  Do you know of any stores with a good selection?

Re: Favorite wine store in NYC?

  • We actually love Trader Joes' wine store. We are kind of particular about our wine but we have found TJ's selection to be really great - and their prices are too. Our go-to bottle is several dollars cheaper at TJ's then at our local wine store. Ah, I'm so glad I can enjoy wine again! :)

  • There's this great little place near where I work in Chelsea called Burgundy Wine on 26th btw 6 & 7. They have a website too:

  • I love trader joes for cheap wine.  If you are willing to travel, my most favorite wine shop is in Carroll Gardens and it's called Smith and Vine.  It has a table with wines that are $12 or less and they are always good.  I rarely stray from that table.  There is always an amazing selection.  But they also have great wines $25 and under.  Then, across the street is a shop called Stinky's, which is the cheese shop they own.  I love them!

  • i have a few--one is on the upper east side, and it's called best cellars.  just about everything in the store is $25 or less, and they organize it by flavors, not by grape variety or growing region.  i find it to be one of the most user-friendly wine stores around.  www.bestcellars.com

in brooklyn, there is the greene grape, which is on fulton street right by havana outpost, a great little cuban bistro.  the people who run it know their wines, but are a tad on the snarky side.

also in brooklyn is a little-known gem of a shop in south park slope.  i don't know the name, but it's on the corner of 10th street and 4th ave.  they have an incredible selection...i find myself still traveling there to buy wine even though i don't live in that neighborhood anymore.

I know Best Cellars well.  When I lived in Boston, I was a regular. Like, they say me coming in and had my wine ready at the register. I don't know if that's something to be proud of or not.

I have been to Havana Outpost many times and never noticed that wine store.  I'll have to check it out.

  • DH and i really like a place just below Union Square called Union Square Wines. :) You can sign up for a card and you earn points each time you buy there and then you can use those points to try wines!! It's so cool!

It's on 13th and 4th, just east of the movie theatre.

  • We love Philippe Wine mainly because of their great selection and their proximity to our house.

However, coming in a close second is Astor Wines.  They have an overwhelming selection with a very, very helpful staff.  Best part is they offer free delivery for all orders over $100.  We bulk every few months to save us from the constant treks to the wine shop.
  • Astor Wines is a great choice in Astor Place
