Heartburn

I have reflux that comes and goes and I'm curious if anyone else does and what you take for it. I actually, rarely get heartburn but frequently get a little acid in my mouth (disgusting I know). I have resisted going to the doctor because I hate to take pills but Monday night DH was working late and I decided to pull out a jar of spaghetti sauce for effortless dinner. BAD idea! I was up for hours with indigestion. DH got me a glass of water and baking soda and that didn't help. At about 3am I started puking. It was horrible. So, what do you take? I'm trying to decide if I should get something OTC or go see my doc. Or maybe I just listen to my body and stay away from tomatoes. But I love pasta, pizza, soup and chili!

  • I take prevacid - but i also have ulcers..

There are so many foods that can trigger it for me..i say go see the Dr. and ask about alternative meds

  • I get it sometimes, but not bad/often enough to take meds. Milk helps. My brother claims drinking water and jumping up and down helps - I'm not sure I see a difference!
  • I get it bad.  Milk and other dairy products as well as caffeine are triggers for me.  It's never made me throw up though.  If I were you I'd see a doc for that.  Yours sounds pretty bad.

Right now I'm just taking Tums for it since I'm PG, but normally I can keep it pretty well under control by avoiding my trigger foods.

  • Ladies, please let me save you all some future Heartburns.

Milk Sooths for about 30 mins, and then starts increasing the acid in your stomach (on avarage) this can cause additional (and usually worse) heartburn.

Water is better, because it dilutes the acid, although it does not sooth the heart burn as quickly as milk does. But My Dr. told me to stay away from Dairy during it.

thanks for correcting me. My heartburn isn't bad, so I haven't done much to investigate.

  • Ughhh I hate that I get the same thing sometimes.  I just chew a few tums and it usually does the trick.  If you get tums though do NOT get off brands, they are gross.  I do have a few samples of Prevacid so maybe I'll try those next time.

  • I ended up in the hospital several x's b/c my acid reflux was so bad. I changed my diet (used to drink 9 mt. dews a day, drink straight whiskey, etc), I know not the best and I took prilosec too. Now I just take the Kroger brand one and it works just as good.
