DH's younger sister delivered her baby yesterday via c-section (water broke Monday morning but baby never came on her own.....she was actually not due til 11/4 so things went a bit early). 5 lbs 6 oz (unsure of length).
This morning the baby was sent to NICU, she has a severe lung infection...AND she failed her hearing test this morning.
It's sort of a complicated story, but basically this SIL is a (recovering?) drug addict who, after many years of a lot of family drama/stealing/lying/etc, was more or less "disowned" by DH's family. She is still with the baby's dad, but we did not meet him until she announced she was pregnant back in the spring. She does not come around much. We are also unsure if she has truly been drug-free during her pregnancy, although she says she has been...there is just the wonder....there is SOOOOOOO much more to this story, but that is the EXTREMELY shortened version...
Anyhow this little baby girl could use T&P. I didn't get to go see her at the hospital yet - last night was a bad night (being a former addict, SIL cannot have pain meds and so she was struggling with C-section incision pain, etc) and then I had to work late tonight. I hope to go at least be able to peek at her in the NICU tomorrow. Not sure if DH will come, this whole situation is a struggle for him. Lots of hurt feelings. But, I pray that the baby comes out happy and healthy through all of this.
Re: T&P needed for my newborn niece...
So sorry you guys are going thru that! Well, hopefully SIL has been drug free throughout the pregnancy. If not - the baby is at least in good hands now. My T+P's are with you guys.
It might not mean much, but my cousin had adopted a child through foster care from a woman who used crack cocaine during her entire pregnancy. She was also a prostitute. When the baby was born, she (the baby) ended up having withdrawal symptoms from the drugs. It was so sad. It took awhile - but she got better. That was around 5-years ago, and now this little girl is a happy healthy normal 5-year old enjoying Kindergarten. Just saying that things can always turn around for the better.
