help pls - ketchup on baseball cap

DH just got a new baseball cap (for his job, so he can't go to the store and get a new one) and DS get ketchup on it.  DH tried washing it with cold water right away and it was still there when it dried.  SO he tried Shout and it is still there.

I am baffled anyway on how ketchup can stain a navy blue hat, but it's there.  It looks sort of white - not bleached, just like light stuff on it, like a deodorant stain sort of.

Any suggestions?

We have oxyclean, but I'm not completely certain I can use that with a dark color.  Experience?

Re: help pls - ketchup on baseball cap

  • I believe oxiclean is safe for all colors. It doesn't contain bleach.

Why don't you just throw it in the wash? An ex of mine worked at a feed mill and part of his uniform was a baseball style hat. The uniform company only cleaned his shirt and pants so the hat was left to me. I just threw it in the washer all the time... that hat got fairly disgusting between the sweat, feed dust, molasses, etc. I would wash it by itself mostly so it wouldn't get squished out of shape.

If your dryer has a shoe rack, put that in and set the hat on it to dry. Otherwise just let it air dry.

  • My H's old roomate used to use that hat cage for dishwasher's ? you put the cap in and it lets the hat be washed without ruining the shape, but as far as the result i don't know. I've used Oxyclean alot without mishaps, I'm suprised too that the stain shows on navy!
