Can someone explain to me

the car commercial in which the little boy says to the other boys "race you home" but then runs and jumps in the back of his moms car, sticks out his tongue, and leaves the others milling around looking pissed?  I thought the kids were brothers, but no.  I thought they were just having a fun race but why does the kid appear to be escaping and the others look menacing?

Re: Can someone explain to me

  • I have never seen this commercial but I don't understnad the point, based upon the description, even if they are not brothers.
  • That commercial confuses me too.  By the end of the commercial I always think the other boys are bullies because they look so mean.  The brother thing never occurred to me.
  • I think the ad is for the reverse system that keeps your from backing over mean little boys, but I can't even remember the type of car b/c I'm always trying to figure out the plot. Car ad fail.

  • I have not seen it.  But, perhaps it is because they are competitive boys, and the one boy cheated by getting in the car, thereby winning the race home?  I would imagine that would piss off the competitive little a-holes.

I am equally confuse as to what the boys are doing, but my biggest concern is how it even shows the use of a reverse system because the car pulls forward away from the boys. She never even backs up.

It's just a dumb dumb dumb commercial.

  • I was just Googling (ironclad research!) and found several people speculating that the commercial was originally about the kid escaping bullies, but Chrysler added the "race you home" line in later in order to give the ad a more wholesome tone.

    By wholesome, they meant confusing.

  • I have gone through the same wonderings and confusion over this commercial.  I initially thought it was his brother until it appeared the kid was running for his safety and not in some attempt to win.  So then I guessed bullies.  But he made it home and jumped into the car?  How does that help his situation?  Those bullies are still going to kick his ass later.
