It's MSRA (TMI warning)

Scary stuff...

The culture of my foot infection came back. It's MSRA. The good news is that the topical antibacterial gel is working. My foot doesn't hurt any more, and it's not draining. The bad thing is that the dermatologist wants me to go on antibiotics for another week. There goes another $25 prescription copay and $10 for yogurt.

I may need to drown my sorrow in a Wille's burrito after work tonight.

Re: It's MSRA (TMI warning)

  • oh, that sucks Trish!

My grandmother just got over MRSA on her foot. It took months for hers to heal with daily I.V. antibiotics to fight it. But she's 87 so she may have had a longer healing time due to that.

Hers was directly on top of her 2nd toe and it looked like a bad burn that was healing. Bright red but no other nasty symptoms.

    Def eat the yogurt!!!

  • In the summer of 2006, I had MRSA 3 different times - once on either side of my face and once on my arm. We also found out that I am allergic to all sulfa drugs and anything related to penicillin so treatment was tricky to say the least, but if I can survive it, anyone can :)

    Hope everything clears up soon!

  • That sounds scary! Hope it clears up soon.

We are also heading to Willie's tonight for dinner LOL.

  • Ugh. Well at least now you know and it seems to be clearing up for you. Good luck!
  • Ick, MRSA is nothing to mess around with.  You get that food taken care of quickly and get better!
  • Scary stuff for sure. Tess had 2 back to back episodes of it and I was scared to death we were going to end up in the hospital last year.   If the yogurt is for what I'm assuming can come along with taking an antibiotic then you might want to try otc probiotic supplements.  I've found they work really, really well. They are on the same aisle as heartburn meds.

You can also get acidolpholous from the pharmacy counter - its a refrigerated probiotic. Does the same thing as yogurt.

    GL Trish!

  • Thanks, ya'll! I tolerate antibiotics pretty well. I just need an excuse to eat more yogurt. Wink...and maybe an excuse to buy a few Atlanta Fresh yogurts.
  • Glad that you finally have a diagnosis...but that one sucks!!! Hope it continues to heal quickly!
