I need some input! (Halloween Party)

Since I know some of you are out there, I have some questions you guys might be able to help with.  I've been thinking about posting but didn't think anyone would be around.

So, we're going to have a Halloween party and I'm super excited. Here's where you can help.

-I think we're going to get a keg.  I don't want to put it outside bc I don't want to bother neighbors.  Where should I put it?  Kitchen doesn't really have room so I think thinking of one of the (completely empty) upstairs bedrooms.  We have a game room up there so I don't think it'll be too much of a hassle.  My other thought was parking in the driveway and putting it in the garage.  Thoughts?

-What is a good punch to make?

- I was thinking of putting on scary movies (muted) in the background for ambiance.  But, if I want music our tv has the best speakers.  Do we need music?  If so, what kind?

Sorry this is long.  I just want to have an amazing party.  We entertain all the time but Halloween is one of my favs and I'm really hard on myself so I just want to plan everything ahead.  Thanks!

Re: I need some input! (Halloween Party)

  • I would say back patio or garage for the beer. Its been awhile, but I'm pretty sure I remember there always being a mess around the keg. And there was always a mini crowd hanging around it.

Music is a must in my book, whatever style you and your friends listen too. I think Halloween sounds might get a little old fast. And I like the idea of scary movies. Do you have other TV's you could bring out from bedrooms? But regardless I typically dont have the music too loud, you still want the guests to be able to carry on a conversation. So might not be horrible on your other sound system.

The last 'punch' I made was a faux sangria, wasn't too sweet and was very adult friendly. It was cranberry/pomegranate ocean spray and sierra mist. Very good!

  • definitely put the keg in the garage if you don't want to put it outside.  I personally wouldn't want people going up and down the stairs with beer in hand.

do you have an ipod you could hook up to some speakers?

  • I definitely think the keg needs to go outside somewhere, because it could get messy and you don't want your house to stink like beer.  :-)  I also would not do scary movies.  No one watches movies when hanging out with friends, at least not at my house anyways.  You could probably find like some Halloween CDs at a party store or something if you wanted.  We normally always have music playing in the background, so that's my suggestion.

As for a punch, I know of 2 good ones.

Hurricane punch (this is a fruity punch that is smooth going down):

1/2 (64oz) bottle red fruit punch

1/2 (12oz) can frozen limeade concentrate, thawed

1 (6oz) can frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed

2-3 cups of Bacardi coconut rum

Stir all ingredients together, Serve over Ice

Lime Punch (this is non alcoholic but I just think it is a really yummy punch)

    2 quarts of lime sherbert

    2 liters of ginger ale

1 (46oz) can of pineapple juice

Add all ingredients in a punch bowl, then you can decorate with lemon slices, lime slices, and maraschino cherries.

Annnd....I'm jealous you are having a fun Halloween party!!  I wanted to have one but I don't think hardly anyone would come.  :-(

  • Thanks for the input, ladies.  We'll put the keg in the garage.  Normally, I'd put it on the back porch but I don't want to get loud and bother neighbors.  Love the punch recipes...thanks for helping me knock something off my to do list.

If any of you guys want something to do for Halloween, feel free to post your email.  I'm totally "the more the merrier" type of person so everyone is welcome!  (Unless I've never seen your sn before...no offense but that would just be weird.  Indifferent )

  • Chiming in late, but... I agree the keg should go outside or in the garage if it's actually cold here for Halloween (you never know...)

At a friend's Halloween party a couple of years ago, they had The Shining going in the background and then some random ambient music playing from their iPod. The effect was really creepy. Of course, you could probably cue up The Shining and totally happy carnival music and it would also be creepy.

  • I know you got some really good punch ideas but I just HAD to throw in my little tidbit of advice. I was the pledge trainer for my sorority for two years and I can't tell you how many different types of punches I had to come up with for all of their themed parties. So I learned that all you need to do is take vodka or rum, add it to the juice of your choice (we did cran/grape, pineapple, orange, lemonade etc.) and then just add sprite and you will have a fabulous/cheap punch that pleases the masses. If you want to get fancy you can even add cut up fruit or replace the sprite with champagne. I liked doing this because it limited the number of ingredients you needed for such a huge batch and I really don't think we ever got a bad concoction.

Hope whatever you try turns out yummy! :-)
