New furnace lately for anyone?

If so, what did you switch from and to and did you change air filter systems and did you notice a difference in comfort as well as your energy bills?

Re: New furnace lately for anyone?

  • We just got a new furnace last month. I believe it is the same brand that we had, but it is smaller (York or Bryant, we looked at both and I don't remember what we picked.). We had more BTUs than we needed to heat our square footage. According to the furnace guy, smaller means having a warmer perimeter of the house. We went with the April (I think?) air filter that only needs to be changed once a year. We also had a central humidifier installed. I don't know what our energy costs will be since we just turned it on, but the old furnace was more than 20 years old and with the tax credit and all of the rebates available it seemed like a good time to get a new one.

You didn't ask, but we used Standard Heating. Their communication was good, they didn't use a hard sell, they were prompt, quick and clean.

  • We got a new furnace and air conditioner in May - our 1958 home had the original, which was still working (not quite sure how...) but we wanted to replace it with something higher efficiency before it broke on us.  My dad used to install them for work, so we had him do the install and we bought at cost from his old shop.

We went with a Payne - which is basically a generic Carrier.  We have only been in our house for a year - didn't run the a/c at all last year - so we don't have much to compare it with - but we have been happy so far!

Have you noticed a difference in the way your air 'feels' or smells compared to your old furnace? Especially with the humidifier I would think there might be a difference that can actually be noticed.

We're in almost the same situation. Our blower motor went out and our furnace is 23 years old and rusty. So with the timing we could take the time to make a good decision instead of being rushed in the middle of winter. Thank goodness the weather has been so nice!
