So I tried making cookies...
and it was a huge FAIL! I'm so disappointed! I was looking at Bake at 350 a few days ago (Maybe last night?) and decided I really wanted to try to make some pumpkin decorated sugar cookies. I got everything together, made the cookies and tried to ice them and they look like a 5 year-old got a hold of them
Now I have a giant mess in the kitchen and I don't really want to clean it up but I know I should before H wakes up and is mad.
Any cooking/baking fails you want to share?
Re: So I tried making cookies...
I know the feeling!
I've had a few fails lately, but one that stands out: I made lemon artichoke chicken pasta last week. I breaded chicken, zested a lemon, made broth, blah, blah, blah. Bottom line: canned artichokes taste like CRAP. Threw the whole thing away. Gross.
On the other hand, made these this weekend. OMG. SOOO good.
Oh they taste fine but they look horrible. I should say it was more of a decorating fail than a baking fail.
Get the ones in a jar, that are in a marinade. They're really good. When I use them in pasta salad, I dont strain them, because the marinade adds so much to the salad.
One time, in my early days of baking, I tried making cookies with bread flour. I guess my mom was out of all purpose and I didn't think it would make a difference. It did! The cookie dough was so crumbly, it wouldn't form cookies. It went in the garbage.
My H makes a really yummy chicken biryani. The Indian restaurants we go to put cashews in it so the last time he made it, he put cashews in. The cashews sucked up every bit of flavor and it literally tasted like we were eating air. We figured out that cashews need to be added in at the very end.
That takes a lot of practice.

Baking isn't something I have quite perfected yet. After I learn to cook more things and get better with our new crock pot, I am going to tackle baking again.
Last year at Christmas, I baked 3 different kinds of cookies. Well, lets just say only 1 was edible. I don't know what I did wrong, I followed all the directions completely. And when I talked to H Grandma, she said she couldn't figure it out either.
I am going to try baking again this year, but perhaps I need to start a little earlier so that way I can be sure they are edible...lol
Okay, I really did have paragraphs for the above post, but for some reason TN or my computer is acting up...grr
EDIT: it let me fix it, maybe it is just the stupid internet connection
Send them this way. I'll eat them no matter what they look like
I do love a yummy cookie, 5 yr old icing job or not!
My cooking catastrophes? Let's just say I've caught the kitchen on fire more than once in my early cooking days. More.Than.Once.

Don't sweat it, you have the rough cookies before you have the awesome cookies.
Last year I made cookies for a Christmas party and decided one of the batches would be the Grinch. Well, they looked more like the Swamp Thing. Everybody got a kick out of them, though and they tasted awesome.
Baking is definitely one of my favorite things in the world to do. I just made my sister a batch of red velvet cupcakes for her birthday. Too bad she didn't want to take more with her, because now I will be eating them for every breakfast and snack until they're gone.
Last year I was making banana bread on a whim and apparently forgot to add sugar. It was edible, but it really just tasted like plain regular bread. Very disappointing when you're expecting the sweet deliciousness that is banana bread!

Annie's Eats has an awesome tutorial on icing sugar cookie with royal icing. Maybe that could help?
