I worked through our budget yesterday, considering my unemployment checks and considering what the minimum amount I need to make is. Turns out the minimum amount is exactly my unemployment checks. I got my letter from the workforce commission confirming my benefits, which were what I was expecting.
So the hospital called today to offer me the job. They confirmed that it's only up to 20 hours and also is considered a temp position, but they have no idea how long they will keep the position. The temp part aside, that pay at 20 hours/week = half of what I'm getting from unemployment, so the only way it would work would be if we could stop paying rent. ![]()
We can afford to keep paying for Nate's daycare, but I think we will
take him out in November if I'm not working. And if I am working, we may
be looking for someone who will do a part time thing (our daycare only offers PT for 18 month olds and up). We'll only need
childcare for about 3 hours a day if I have a 9-5 job.
I've never turned down a job before. I feel oddly empowered.

DH is running into the same thing. Jobs he's been offered are less than unemployment. His unemployment counselor said he didn't have to take any job offers that would net him less than that and lower our "standard of living". Good to know!
And it is empowering to turn down a job offer. It's weird because usually you're begging for the job! But it sounds like you're doing the right thing for your family!

I agree turning down a job is empowering, I had to do it for the same reason, they just weren't willing to offer me enough money to survive. Also I've been running into the same problem. My unemployment is exactly what we need to pay our bills, so I have to take that into consideration when I apply for a job.
I hope you find the perfect job quick and you can find a PT day care for Nate when you do get that perfect 9-5 job.

good for you!
i have a friend who's husband has been on UI for a year. none of the jobs he's found come close to his UI. ugh!
Ditto what everyone else said.
The only job I ever turned down was Sam's Club, to work at Super Target (this was in high school). Not the same. Especially since Sam's would've paid way better. I ended up working at Sam's in college anyway.
That's great that you'll get to spend some time with Nate, though!
