Bridal Shower Themes/Ideas

So I'm supposed to be planning my sister's bridal shower (it will be held in February).  I'm kind of lost on ideas or a theme for the shower so I want your opinions. :)  I'm not too excited about it yet, so I thought if I had some ideas and started planning, it would help me get into it.

Mine was held at my mom's house, so there was no real theme or anything.  My sister doesn't want hers at a house, so it'll probably be somewhere we can (or may need to) decorate.  However, it'll need to be stuff I can get cheap.

Since it's in February, I thought red things would be easy to find (like the red mix of m&ms) but I don't want a "valentines" theme.  That's pretty much all I have so far.....  good, huh?  Her wedding will be in Florida, but I don't want a beach themed shower either, since they're doing a beach themed reception.

So, what did you guys do for your showers?  Did you have a theme?  Or colors?  Help! :)

Re: Bridal Shower Themes/Ideas

  • My shower didn't have a theme, but the color scheme was based around my wedding colors (fall colors).

Out of curiosity, what are her colors?  Maybe we can get some inspiration from that...

  • My shower didn't have a theme either, though it was "barbecue style" and held at a site that many of our family celebrations have been.

That being said, I would have LOVED a Breakfast a Tiffany's themed shower! It could be a light brunch with some teal blue and white decor/invitations, mimosas, and guests would be encouraged to wear their favorite little black dress (and pearls, and gloves, and... well, you get the idea)! I'm getting excited just thinking about it. Man, I hope I get to be in another wedding so I can suggest it!

  • I just did a bridal shower in June for a friend (who is getting married tomorrow!) and we did like a Kentucky derby shower. We had flowers everywhere and made it very girly (she wanted the colors pink and orange)  On the invitation we asked for guests to bring their best hat. It was fun seeing all the floppy hats everyone brought. And it made for some great pictures!

  • My mom and I hosted my sister's at my house.  We didn't really have a theme, but everything was pink she wanted it that way.  I think we decorated w/ some wedding bells, confetti, etc.

You can totally just get away with a color scheme if you don't want to go with a particular theme.  My wedding colors where red, white and black but my shower was pink and orange.  Here are a couple of pics:

  • Heather's shower was a fiesta theme because that is where they went on their honeymoon!
My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!
  • I know I am late to this, but I wanted to input any way Wink. I agree that you don't need a theme. Whatever you do, make it "her". My sister asked me what I wanted and I was glad she did. I wanted pink and white and pretty/girly. Our wedding colors were brown and green so it didn't go with anything at all - I just figured that this is really the only time I could get away with having a pretty, fancy, girly party and no one would care or be miserable. We had pink champange and petit fors. I had a "bridal chair". It wasn't over the top or foofy or anything - it was just very elegant and pretty. I loved it.

With all that said, if there is a theme that screams her, choose that - even if it doesn't fit into their wedding. If all she wants is to have it outside - focus on finding the perfect location (thats what my sister wanted for her shower, pink gerber daisies and it to be outside), I would just focus on something she loves (its ok to ask her) and just go with that.

  • I am super late on this but my BF is getting married in December and we are having a Alice and Wonderland Tea Party themed shower. I made her invitations and they look like a giant queen of hearts player card that has quotes from alice and wonderland and talks about the tea party. Everyone has to wear a fancy tea hat. I think its going to look really cute!
