My 8 year old niece is really getting into crafting. She told my sister she wants to be a banana peel for Halloween. Not the banana, just the peel and she wants to make it. I told my sister how lucky she was to have a kid with a great imagination. My sister told me to be quiet because she's the one who has to figure out how to help her make a peel costume.
Last year she told my sister that she wanted to be "taking a shower" for Halloween. The kid cracks me up.
My sister is so not a crafty person. So for Christmas and even an early Christmas present I've been trying to think of crafting things that my niece and I can go to once a month until Spring.
I checked the school dristrict's community ed classes and most of them are strictly adult or strictly child. Same thing with Joann's and Michaels. There is one pottery place by her house that I'll use for one of the months.
Any other suggestions for me? I'd even like to find a place to take her to a cooking class too.

Re: Know of any adult/kid crafting places?
Check this place out, I'm taking a class here next week.

Such a great idea, your niece is lucky to have you in her life!
Here are a few other places that may have something to offer you:
Crafty Planet
Amazing Threads
Mercury Mosaics
Paint Your Plate (Edina and St. Paul)
The Bead Monkey
Kiln Kreations
Edina Art Center
Kidcreate Studio
if you want to do a paint your own ceramics thing, I can't say enough good things about Lily Pad in Ramsey. They're amazingly helpful, and in my experience, the prices are much cheaper. (I did a large popcorn bowl for less than 30...). They also have seasonal things that you can order ahead and have personalized to paint (for Halloween it's pumpkins and for winter it's snowmen. they cut out a name or saying for you, and there's an internal light with it).
I've heard and read some horrible reviews about Paint Your Plate lately, at least as far as customer service goes.

I would second Crafty Planet.
