The word Especially

I pronounce the word- es-spesh-ally.  It drives me INSANE, when people pronounce it eck-spesh-ally.

Am I crazy?  There is no 'k' sound in that word, is there?  I feel like almost everyone I know pronounces it that way and I'm starting to wonder if I'm in the wrong, LOL.

Anywho, just had a client say ekspecially on the phone and it reminded me of this...

  • Nope, drives me crazy too.  I have the same problem with people saying expresso instead of espresso.

And speaking of "exactly", it also drives me nuts when people say 'ezz-actly."

  • Or just "specially?"  That cracks me up.

And like the others, I too have those mispronounciations, misspellings, and misuses of words/phrases that drive me UP. THE. WALL.

OMG!  My boss does this and of course it's a work your emphasize most of the time and it is like nails on a chalk board to me.

Also, I hate when people say "prolly."  It's probably.

  • Mine is not so much a mispronunciation but a wrong word choice:

I hate when people say 'ambivalent' when they really mean 'indifferent.'  I just got an email 5 minutes ago where this was the case and I was very tempted to reply something like "oh really? he had two strong, differing opinions about the subject?"

  • I just read on another board that someone called her DH "Scotch".  No.  He is not an alcoholic beverage, he is Scottish.

Along the same lines a girl I went to HS with had descendants from Sweden and Norway so obviously they were Swedish and Norwish.

My favorite Nest misspelling is "hammidowns" instead of hand-me-downs.  Wow.
