We are heading to a wedding this weekend for one of DH's close friends. When we checked the registry every item was already bought or unavailable. This blanket was unavailable.

But I found this one from BB&B for $20. I got a gift receipt in case this isn't going to fit the needs of the blanket above. I also intend to include a note saying we thought they were similar but completely understand if they would prefer to return it. But DH isn't so convinced that these blankets are similar enough.
If this makes any difference, the bride and groom are paying for the wedding themselves and are trying to make things as low-budget as possible. The reception is going to be an extended cocktail hour with heavy appetizers and drinks. But there won't be seating, a band/dj or dancing.

Re: Wedding Present POLL
Quick question: I should buy them a GC to Crate and Barrel even though everything on their registry has been purchased?
Normally, I'd be all over a GC if there were still items available on the registry to purchase. But I figured if I wasn't giving them an actual gift then maybe money to put towards the wedding might be more appreciated. But I'm not sure if I'm missing something about the GC to Crate and Barrel.
I don't think there's a right or wrong answer to your questions EA. Personally, I do think the blankets are fairly similar--though I think the only thing I might notice is say the one from C &B is from Portugal and the one in BB&B is made in China, I'd prefer the C&B one. But I doubt many people are like me.
I think money/a check is always the right size, shape and color,...but, it's also pretty boring. Looking back at your wedding and gifts, what did you appreciate/like the most? Is your answer the same or different now then when you first received it? That's what I'm trying to do now with my friends that are still getting married. Plus, even though I'm normally against gift cards, Crate and Barrel is one of those stores that if given a chance, I'd probably always find something there that I'd want. Even just a $2 glass or something random like that. They just have so much to offer, I don't think it would be awful to give a gift card from there, even if everything has been purchased from their registry.
I said GC to Crate and Barrel. Are the items "unavailable online", but they would be available at the store or by a phone order? That's why I said C&B GC, since they may still be able to get some of the items with the gift card even if you couldn't get them. Even if that's not the case, they like the store enough to register there so I'd think they'd still appreciate a gift card there so that they can get some other items now or in the future. Personally, I liked getting gift cards so that we knew we would put the money towards new things that we both could pick out together (instead of putting a check in our bank account and using it to buy groceries or gas or whatever)! JMO.
I have tried to get away from gift cards, so I voted for BB&B blanket and check. I feel like GC do not always get used (forgotten, lost, etc) or they have weird usage rules and start eating into your balance after a certain amount of time.
I also think the blankets look similar. Are the materials/size similar?
The blankets are both full/queen and both cotton. The C&B blanket is organic cotton and the BB&B is just cotton. I know they are the exact same, but I thought they might be close enough to give it a shot.
The other issue I have with C&B is that the closest store is over an hour away from this couple. They live in a rural area with few big stores nearby. But there is a BB&B within 10 min if they would want to return the blanket. Not sure if that changes things.
