My BIL/SIL sent us an email with a different idea for Christmas gifts this year. For some background, my DH is the oldest of 3 boys, all of which are married. We live in York, middle brother/wife live in South Carolina and youngest brother/wife live in IL about 2 hours or so from St. Louis. So we're pretty spread out geographically. We won't be seeing DH's brothers/wives at Christmas this year.
Typically we draw names and do a secret santa for that person. The person gives a few ideas for presents that they'd like and we get them. I think our price limit is typically $30 or less.
This year BIL/SIL suggested that since we all live in different areas that each couple buys a few things for each of the couples that represents our area. For instance, middle brother and wife both went to U of South Carolina. So they may send us an ornament from their alma mater to each couple.
Just hoping to get some ideas for small gifts to send to my BIL/SILs for Christmas that represent our geographic area. Some thoughts I had were: a cheap t-shirt or Christmas ornament from York College, since DH and I met there and graduated from York. I don't think that's very creative, though, esp since I think my ILs will send stuff from their alma maters.
We could throw in a few little things like a Hershey bar or York Peppermint Pattie, too. Or Utz potato chips since they are local and can't be bought where they live. The gifts don't have to totally be representative of York; it can include the Central PA area. Any ideas would be appreciated. Even if you can give some ideas of stores to shop in the Central PA area, that would be appreciated, too. Like previously mentioned, I think the spending limit will be no more than $30/couple.
Thanks so much!
Re: Christmas gift ideas (long)
One thing my parents always ask me to buy them/send them is ginger snaps....the kind in the orange and brown box (I can't remember the brand name).
Chocolate World has some cute stuff in their gift shop (candles, vintage candy boxes, etc) might be worth it to look there.
Maybe some kind of cookbook (Hershey or Amish...not sure how close York is to Amish country).
You can do Wolfgang chocolate/candy, Stauffers cookies, anything Harley...
I think Christmas Tree Hill might sell York related items like the Cat's Meow house things. I have a pottery piece that says York on it; I think I bought it there.
Sweetzels!!!
Yep, I work there and they have custom York/Lancaster pieces. Also... Dutch Haven ships shoo-fly-pies pretty much anywhere. Sorry, I'm more Lancaster than York, so my ideas might be too Lancasterian. But I think it would be cute to do a goody bag of yummy foods from around here... Herr's potato chips, etc.
Whoopie Pies, Hammond Pretzels, jams or jelly from places like Kitchen kettle Village or Intercourse Canning Co.,apple butter, clear toys from Roots, Naylor wine (Naylor winery is in York or rather Stewartstown but York county I beleive)
