Re: List of endorsements
Is it just me or does anyone find endorsements made less than 3 weeks away from the election a bit odd? If they were so hot for their candidate, why did it take so long to endorse him? Is it a safe endorsement now that an Obama win seem more likely?
Hmmm....okay....I guess.
Oh yeah, I knew that...your post just gave me the opportunity to mention what I was thinking earlier today when I saw posts on E08 about new endorsements.
Yup, I think the potential for October surprises or late changes--a big gaffe in a debate, a bad VP pick--has newspapers wait until late in the game.
The other thing is timing in relation to voting. Most readers probably won't remember an endorsement their hometown paper made in say, August, if they vote in November, kwim?
Early voting starts in FL on Monday, so I'm curious about when my paper will endorse. I'm guessing we'll see a lot of endorsements starting this Sunday and probably the next couple of Sundays...when papers have their largest circulation/readership numbers.
