Halloween Poll!

I adore Halloween as much as the average 5-year-old, so let's just have ourselves a little poll. :)

Are you going to any Halloween parties this year? What will you go as, if so?

If you're going trick-or-treating with your little tyke(s), what are they going as?

What's your favorite Halloween candy? Least favorite?

Do you remember your favorite Halloween costume? Lamest?

Tell a freaky ghost or Halloween story, if you've got one you'd like to share with the class.

  • Are you going to any Halloween parties this year? What will you go as, if so? Yes, we will! We're thinking about Punky Brewster and Henry, but we'll see. If you're going trick-or-treating with your little tyke(s), what are they going as? N/AWhat's your favorite Halloween candy? Least favorite? Probably Twix or Snickers is my favorite. My least favorite is Smartees.Do you remember your favorite Halloween costume? Lamest? My favorite one was probably my Mickey Mouse costume. Probably the lamest one was a skeleton costume I fashioned out of construction paper one year.Tell a freaky ghost or Halloween story, if you've got one you'd like to share with the class. I can't think of anything freaky that's happened to me, but I do have kind of a funny Halloween story. My grandpa actually passed away on Halloween, and it was a hospice situation - kind of drawn out and painful for him, so we were relieved when he wasn't hurting anymore. Well, DH (at that point we hadn't been dating terribly long) and I went to my parents' house to be with them a little bit, and we were just kind of eating comfort food and watching movies. At one point, my mom said something that just cracked DH up, and unfortunately said it right as he'd taken a big swig of soda. DH laughed, choked, and sprayed the entire living room with soda - it was seriously everywhere. He was HORRIFIED with himself, until all of us just cracked up. It probably was one of things where you had to be there, but it went a long way in lightening the mood, and my dad still kids him about the time he sprayed the house down with Dr. Pepper..
  • Are you going to any Halloween parties this year? What will you go as, if so?  Not that I know of.  If you're going trick-or-treating with your little tyke(s), what are they going as?What's your favorite Halloween candy? Least favorite?  Favorite--Reese's cups; Least favorite--candy corn or smarties, yuck.Do you remember your favorite Halloween costume? Lamest?  I remember my cousin and I (we're the same age) dressing up as M&Ms one year.  My mom and my aunt made our costumes and they were pretty awesome.  For a Halloween party in college I dressed as a hippy, I think that was a good one too.  Lamest was probably the year I just threw on my mom's scrubs and called it  day :)Tell a freaky ghost or Halloween story, if you've got one you'd like to share with the class.
  • Are you going to any Halloween parties this year? What will you go as, if so? My band hosts a dinner and movie night ever year, so I will go to that. Don't know of any other parties. I'm going to be Julia Child ;)

If you're going trick-or-treating with your little tyke(s), what are they going as? n/a

What's your favorite Halloween candy? Least favorite? I'm not a big candy fan, but I love the mini twix, snickers, and kit kats. Otherwise, I prefer baked goods! Least favorite is candy corn. Too sweet.

Do you remember your favorite Halloween costume? Lamest?  Never really did Halloween growing up.

Tell a freaky ghost or Halloween story, if you've got one you'd like to share with the class. Well, I work in a very, very old building, and I have to be in the auditorium a lot. Let's just say I've heard things while in there alone. Indifferent

  • Are you going to any Halloween parties this year? What will you go as, if so? There were two parties I wanted to go to, but we couldn't get a babysitter for either one. I was planning to go as Fox in Socks this year, but I will probably do it next year instead.

If you're going trick-or-treating with your little tyke(s), what are they going as? DS is being a monkey this year and DD is being a student in the Ravenclaw House from Harry Potter.

What's your favorite Halloween candy? Least favorite? Favorite is probably Milky Way.  Least favorite is Almond Joy (coconut - blech!).

Do you remember your favorite Halloween costume? Lamest? Favorite - In middle school, three friends and I were Goldilocks and the Three Bears (I was naturally blonde then, so I was Goldilocks).  Lamest was probably when I was around 16 and some friends and I dressed all in goth-type attire (it was really kind of what I wore normally anyway) and went trick or treating and let people think we were the girls from The Craft.  People kept saying how cute we were.

  • We LOVE Halloween! We have movie fests on weekends all October (Hocus Pocus, Nightmare Before Xmas, Sleepy Hallow, etc) Are you going to any Halloween parties this year? What will you go as, if so? We went to Spooky Skate last night (roller skating in costume) and went as a lobster and chef. We are invited to another party on the 29th - we will probably wear the same thing. If you're going trick-or-treating with your little tyke(s), what are they going as? No kiddos but we like to pass out candyWhat's your favorite Halloween candy? Candy Corn Least favorite? Those ones wrapped in black or orange paper. Maryjanes? Do you remember your favorite Halloween costume? DH and I went as Ceiling Fans one year and that was awesome! Lamest? Can't think of any. . .Tell a freaky ghost or Halloween story, if you've got one you'd like to share with the class. None, but I can't wait to read some!

  • Are you going to any Halloween parties this year? What will you go as, if so? No. Sad H has to work.  I really wanted to be Where's Waldo though.

If you're going trick-or-treating with your little tyke(s), what are they going as? No little ones, but one of my yorkies is going to be a bumble bee.  The other yorkie is an army soldier and H's dog is a hot dog.  And they have Halloween collars and scarfs to wear until Halloween night.

What's your favorite Halloween candy? Least favorite? Fav- Reeses or Snickers.  Least- candy corn, tootsie rolls, and smarties

Do you remember your favorite Halloween costume? Lamest? Fav- Miss America when I was about 6. or my hooker costume last year (It really wasn't very revealing.  Just completely hilarious.) Lamest- gypsy made out of all my grandma's tacky jewelry and accessories.

Tell a freaky ghost or Halloween story, if you've got one you'd like to share with the class. This isn't Halloween related, but the house H lived in with his family when we started dating had the kitchen completely rebuilt because the previous owner had tied his wife to a kitchen chair and burnt her to death.  There were multiple sightings, weird things thrown around empty rooms, and one time his sister took a picture in the dark room without the flash and you can see an outline of a girl.

Are you going to any Halloween parties this year? What will you go as, if so?  One of the VPs at work is having a party - I probably won't dress up.

What's your favorite Halloween candy? Least favorite?  Hmmm...candy corn is my favorite and least favorite candy.  The first few of the season taste amazing but any after that...huge stomach ache.

Do you remember your favorite Halloween costume? Lamest?  Oh, my very favorite was a dinosaur costume my aunt made for me! I can't really explain it but it was green and had a long tail with spikes and it was stuffed so I looked big and round. I LOVED it.  I was 12.  So...that is the lame part.

Tell a freaky ghost or Halloween story, if you've got one you'd like to share with the class. I don't have any!!

  • Are you going to any Halloween parties this year? What will you go as, if so? Probably not. This is JJ's first real year celebrating the holiday, so we'll do stuff with him. Oct. 29 = Halloween thing at OSU-OKC, Oct. 30 = kiddie Halloween party at a friend's house and trick-or-treating, Oct. 31 = first Thunder game for us. We'll be too tied up for other parties, I'm thinking.

If you're going trick-or-treating with your little tyke(s), what are they going as? JJ's going to be a scarecrow, so I thought about going as Dorothy. I should probably figure that out soon...

What's your favorite Halloween candy? Least favorite? I love me some Snickers. Not a big fan of candy corn or chocolate Tootsie Rolls.

Do you remember your favorite Halloween costume? Lamest?  Fave was this showgirl costume I had when I was 12 - it was super cute and totally not skanky. Lamest...not quite sure. I've had some pretty awesome costumes.

Tell a freaky ghost or Halloween story, if you've got one you'd like to share with the class. Right before we moved from Fort Sill into the house my parents currently live in [i was 15], I woke up in the middle of the night and saw a Confederate soldier standing in my bedroom doorway. I mean, he had the uniform, the gun, the gear...everything. I used to live right next door to the Old Post Quadrangle, and a lot of ghost stories came out of that area...but I'd never heard anything about my house. I tried to scream, but this cold sensation overtook me, and I passed out/fell back asleep. I didn't wake up again until the next morning but remembered everything. It was SO weird.

  • Are you going to any Halloween parties this year? What will you go as, if so? I haven't been invited to any yet, so I'm going to answer no on this one. I still need to come up with a costume to wear when I give out candy to the trick-o-treaters, so I need to start thinking.

If you're going trick-or-treating with your little tyke(s), what are they going as? I don't have kids, but I'm going to make my dogs wear their costumes- a lobster and a turtle (from Target).

What's your favorite Halloween candy? Least favorite? I love Snickers and Milky Ways. Those peanut butter things wrapped in the black and orange waxy paper are disgusting, as are Neco Wafers and Smarties.

Do you remember your favorite Halloween costume? Lamest? The last year I went trick or treating, I was the Big Bad Wolf and my friends were Little Red Riding Hood and the Grandmother. My lamest was probably the year I went as a dalmatian from 101 Dalmatians, since everyone kept calling me a cow.

Tell a freaky ghost or Halloween story, if you've got one you'd like to share with the class. Sorry, I have nothing.

  • Are you going to any Halloween parties this year? What will you go as, if so? No, but we're considering inviting people to stop by if they want on Saturday night... something for all the friends on here to consider. ;)

If you're going trick-or-treating with your little tyke(s), what are they going as? N/A

What's your favorite Halloween candy? Least favorite? Kit Kats probably. Least favorite is anything with nuts since I couldn't eat them.

Do you remember your favorite Halloween costume? Lamest? Favorite was probably Rainbow Brite when I was 4. It was awesome. Lamest.. umm.. when I was 3 I wanted to be a gumball machine (no joke). So I ended up being a bag of gumballs (they were balloons).

LOL, umm.. you may have to refresh my memory a little bit more! I don't remember which one that is.

Okay, so here's a (supposedly true) story from my hometown that I actually recently learned, though not a personal experience.

Back in the mid-1800s, there were two Irish brothers who had just been paid for their work. Anxious to go spend the cash, they headed out to the saloons for a good time, though they were unknowningly followed by another Irishman who was hoping to part them with their cash... and late in the evening, he finally got his chance, though in the attempt one of the brothers was killed.

The suspect was apprehended not long after, and was accused based on witness testimony. After being found guilty of murder during a trial, he soon awaited his execution via hanging. Within a few months it was carried out without issue, and he was dead.

Some men took the murderer's body to the local Catholic cemetery since he had been Irish Catholic. However, the Catholics refused to take him since he had been convicted of killing a man. So the men took the body to the new town cemetery, but unfortunately it was so new that they did not yet have any pauper's graves set up. The best the cemetery could do was leave his coffin above ground, which is what happened... but word soon got out that a few enterprising college students were looking to steal the body for medical research. Unsure of what to do, the head townsmen got together to think of a solution. One man who owned a business downtown offered to keep the coffin in his attic until a good solution could be found.

And so the coffin stayed in the attic for over 40 years. When the business owner died, the man's body (now nothing but bones) was donated to the local college, and a note was made of this donation.

However, there is a problem now: The college has no record of ever receiving the bones, and they have no clue where they even are. The Irishman's remains are missing to this day, which is causing a few issues...

Recently in a basement of a building not far from the site of the business where he rested for 40 years, a psychic and a ghost hunter had an encounter with a strange, dark being eminating a lot of bad energy in the form of a dark shadow. The psychic asked this spirit to identify itself, and in response the black mass briefly morphed into the image of a hanging man.

In that town, only one man has ever been hanged.

    How's that, Jamie? Smile

I love it! Nothin' like a good ghost story.

  • Are you going to any Halloween parties this year? What will you go as, if so? No parties this year.

If you're going trick-or-treating with your little tyke(s), what are they going as? M is going as Olivia the pig. It's one of her favorite books to read and loves the tv show.

What's your favorite Halloween candy? Least favorite? I love candy corn. I don't think I have a least favorite.

Do you remember your favorite Halloween costume? Lamest? The only costume I really remember was a bunny outfit my mom made me. It was white strechy pants and a white shirt. But what I loved about this costume was that the shirt had a pocket on it so I could put my carrot in there. I was in love with carrots when I was younger.

My least favorite was the year I dressed up like a hobo. My mom posted it on her fb and it is completely awful. (One reason I wish my mom never had fb)

The best thing Halloween story I have was one year my Aunt Maryann made a "haunted" house in her house. She lived out in the country so it was really dark and kind of creepy out there. She was dressed up like the creature from the Blue Lagoon. She would lead us to each little activity she had. There was a bowl full of "worms", "eyeballs", and "brains" that we had to touch. Then at the end of this we got a homemade candied apple. I was about 8 or so but it was a memory that has stuck with me for a long time.

  • Are you going to any Halloween parties this year? What will you go as, if so? Probably not. We'll probably just hand out candy. I was trying to think of a costume for work on friday, we have food day and everyone dresses up. But I can't think of anything.

If you're going trick-or-treating with your little tyke(s), what are they going as?

What's your favorite Halloween candy? Least favorite? Favorite: twix, reese's Least favorite: Candy corn, almond joy, rolos

Do you remember your favorite Halloween costume? Lamest? Favorite: my grandma made me a bunny costume in 1st grade. It was awesome! It was like a big footie pajama that zipped in the back, it was furry alllll over, had a hood with the ears on it, had the poofy tail. I loved it, but I got pretty hot wearing it.

Lamest: When I couldn't think of any good ideas, I just went as a baby. It was pretty lame.

Tell a freaky ghost or Halloween story, if you've got one you'd like to share with the class. My cousins, my brother, and I used to stay the weekend at my grandma's house. She lives out in the country. I don't know how the story started, but there was supposedly a ghost of a little boy that was around her house occasionally. I used to be so scared to go outside after it was dark. One time, I looked outside and saw the little boy ghost just standing there staring at me. I might have imagined this though, I honestly cannot remember. I still get spooked when we go over there for 4th of July and we're all outside at night.

Another story that's not very scary: At that same grandma's house, there were woods behind her house. During the day, my cousins, my brother, and I would always go "exploring" back there. She had an old run down shed behind her house and it was creepy looking. My counsin and my brother would always tell me there was a witch living in the shed. So when we were walking by it on our way to the woods, they would always run away really fast so I was by myself by the shed. It scared the crap out of me every time lol.

I adore Halloween as much as the average 5-year-old, so let's just have ourselves a little poll. :)

Are you going to any Halloween parties this year? What will you go as, if so? No but I want to. Unfortunately, all our friends have kids now, so they are taking them trick-or-treating and not throwing a Halloween party as is the norm. We'll probably stay home and watch scary movies. If we were going out, I'd like to dress up as a pirate-y wench!

If you're going trick-or-treating with your little tyke(s), what are they going as? Don't have kids.

What's your favorite Halloween candy? Least favorite? Don't eat candy.

Do you remember your favorite Halloween costume? Lamest? My mom only took us trick-or-treating a couple of times. I remember being a Barbie princess once. It was pretty cool.

Tell a freaky ghost or Halloween story, if you've got one you'd like to share with the class. Well, I once went visiting 'haunted/abandoned houses with a group of friends in high school. This house looked completely creepy and we were all so quiet as we walked up to it that when a cow mooed out of nowhere we ran screaming. When we realized what happened we laughed our @sses off!
