Cleaning upholstery

I have a few stains in my couch. Any suggestions on how to clean it and get the stains out? I've tried upholstery cleaning and nothing. I don't won't to damage the fabric, it's higher quality fabric.

Re: Cleaning upholstery

  • what type of fabric? usually when you purchase they give you an owners's guide but if you don't have one find out what type of material you have. some hate water, alcohol,  heat, or any chemical based cleaners. Spot check, sounds repetitive but unless you know what type of fabric..Commercial cleaners usually are the best, the problem I have had is cleaning on my own, you need to really, really rinse and dry. If you don't want to invest in professional ( that would be me!) then you have to make sure your upholstery is getting a "laundry cycle" in. Rinse, clean, Rinse, Rinse, Dry.

It's so mundane, repetitive and boring but it's the only way I know to clean without paying for a company!

    Sorry and good luck!

  • It's not microfiber but similar. I bought it from someone who purchased it from Bloomingdales. It's high quality. Do you think a steamer may damage it?:

  • I don't want to say it won't because I would feel so horrible giving you advice and your poor couches ruined!! We have used a carpet cleaner machine but upholstrey fabric cleaner in it with really good results, I didn't think that the rug cleaner would be gentle enough. Have you tried calling Bloomindales?
  • No worries at all! I' was going to try the steam regardless, but that's a great suggestion about contacting Bloomingdales! Thanks!
