waxing

How many of you have in the past, or do on a regular basis get your bikini area waxed. Well... specifically brazillian. This is something I've always wanted to try, but always been to chicken to actually get done - mainly because of the pain.

With our 1 year anniversary coming up, and our cruise, I was thinking about getting it done around that time as a surprise for Ted. Well... really for me, but I'll tell Ted is was for him. lol.

Re: waxing

  • I get a couple of brazilian waxes done during the summer.  The first time is the worst, but there are a few things that can make it easier.  My waxer has told me to take Tylonal, or Advil before going in, or having a drink first.  It really does help.  Also, if you get them done regularly you hair begins to thin out, so you don't have to get it done as often.

The pain is pretty bad, but it doesn't last very long, maybe a couple of seconds per strip.  Mine last about a week and a half, so the benefit outweighs the bad IMO.

If you've never had it done before, you should go in for a test run first.  Some people have no problems at all, others have bad reactions.  I've never had a problem, but a friend of mine had a rash develop down her inner thighs for a week afterwards.

HTH, it got kind of long.

  • Ouch. Take Tylenol (or something stronger if you can get someone to drive you) and ask if they have numbing cream. I did it for years, but I stopped after the wedding in favor of laser removal. I had endured enough pain. That being said, a few of my friends claim that it "isn't painful at all." I think they're full of it...

I really would rather do laser hair removal so I never have to deal with it again!

  • I've had it done several times. I honestly think waxing my legs hurts a lot more. It does hurt, just not as bad as some other things. Also, be prepared to hang out on your hands and knees on the table, with your bum in the air. It's the worst part. The good news is the more often you have it done, the slower the hair grows back. I had my last one done in July and it still looks brand new. heh.
  • I'm not gonna lie. It hurts. A lot. My Bff used to provide all of my waxing needs. The first time I almost kicked her several times and she ripped hair from places I didn't even know had hair. But the gain out ways the pain IMO. Then she moved to Louisiana and I'm back to shaving because I'm too cheap to pay full price. And ditto on the tylenol and numbing cream.
  • Well I'm pretty sure I found the salon I'm going to when I get it done... now I just need to figure out when the right time is... yay? haha
  • I've never had one before but have always wanted to do it.  Obviously I have no advice, but good luck!
    Anniversary
  • I just got my first one two weeks ago for my wedding. OMG was it painful! But yes, only for a couple of seconds and I didn't have any reaction at all. I would totally do it again if what everyone says about the pain becoming less and less each time. However, my advice, like other girls (and I forgot) is to take over the counter pain meds an hour before and what I didn't do again but the waxer told me, I should have waited two weeks of no shaving before getting it done. My MOH also was getting hers done and couldn't get it all because she only waited like a week and two days. The strips need hair to grab.

And as far as how long the wax lasts, I'm back to almost regular shaving. :(

But hell, if I get results like Alison, I'm so down to do it again!

This is me.  Also, my skin is super sensitive and prone to rashes

  • Ditto what everyone else said.  It hurts, but it's not unbearable.  Definitely take an advil or tylenol.  It's a little strange at first that some random lady is all in your business, but once you realize that she does this to many people, it's not a big deal.  Some places hurt much more than others - places where the hair is more rooted.  It is supposed to be less painful the more often you go.  I am too cheap and lazy to do it on a regular basis, so I don't know but I have a friend who says that it hurts, just not nearly as much.  I do it for special occasions/vacations - so I think I have done it 5-10 times.

Oh and as someone else, said, make sure you have enough hair!  It can be a little embarrassing, but you have to have enough for them to wax.

  • can i just raise this question? what woman decides that she wants to wax vaginas as a profession? for reals? not this one, lol. i just can't imagine doing that all day long.
  • I've never had this done personally, but my younger sis is a cosmetologist and learned how to do bikini waxes in school.  I have a hard enough time getting my eyebrows waxed, so she said I would probably never tolerate this.  Although, I am intrigued now that I could potentinally save a ton of time with shaving weekly... hmmm...

And, Samantha, I love your point! LMAO!!!
