POLL: What vacuum do you own?

Looking for a vacuum that is great at picking up pet hair. What vacuum do you have? Would you recommend it??

Thanks!?

Re: POLL: What vacuum do you own?

  • we have a Miele Antares canister vac.  they discontinued our model, but have many similar ones available.  we don't have any pets, but it gets up all of my hair (which tends to be everywhere!)   i love it and would def. recommend it!

  • We have the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser with a HEPA filter. I love it. It finds hair that you didn't know existed.

We moved into a brand new apartment about 2 months before we bough the Bissell. I used our regular (cheap) vacuum every week and it looked like it got everything, but the first week with the Bissell was amazing. It looked like how carpets do after their shampoo cleaned.

I'm pretty sure it was under $130 from Walmart.

  • Dyson Animal. I puffy heart it, I have two very sheddy dogs.
  • I second the Dyson animal.
  • Bissell  Healthy Home. It is fab.
  • The Dyson Animal
We've had it almost 3 years and use it on all floor surfaces.

  • Bissell pet hair all the way! I have this vacuum too and I was awe inspired and a little grossed out when I went over a spot on my carpet I had just done with my old one.  Its easy to use-sturdy but not heavy. Its got GREAT pet hair attachments-we have a couple blankets in these play cubes our cats like to use as beds.  While we were moving we did some super-thorough cleaning so I vacuumed this with a pet hair attachment-very considerable difference!!

We got it for about 120 at target.  Among its amazing pet hair pick up capabilities it has all kinds of awesome pluses that I love: foot button that rolls up the chord inside of a chamber, the on switch is on the handle so I don't have to bend over, the filter is washable so you don't have to buy more, its also bag less but you don't have to get your hands dirty becuase it has a release on the side of the canister.  I'm sorry if I sound like a vacuum sales person but I just love love this thing.  Never realized what a POS our other one was before now.

  • We have the Bissell Healthy Home. It has the same attachments as the Bissell Pet Hair vacuum though. Overall, I like it. It is very heavy and difficult to get up and down stairs, but the pet hair attachment works nicely on them.

Someday I would like invest in a Dyson, but for the price range, it does a good job.

  • We have a Eureka Smart Boss.  It has a bag.  Before it, I had a Shark Canister one and I *HATED* the canister with a passion and it didn't work well.  The Eureka has been good.
  • I just got the Dyson DC 25 Animal and LOVE IT!!!!
  • We recently replaced our Kirby with a Shark Navigator.  Our house has hardwood and tile throughout with carpet in only the bedrooms. So I was looking for something that would do just as good on the carpet as on the hard surfaces. We've had the Shark for about a week and I think I've really put it through its paces. The only complaint I have is that the canister is really quite small, so I have to empty it more often that I would like. But it really does pick up everything on both surface types.

The Kirby was good, but really heavy and awkward to use in tight spaces. It also was almost impossible to attach the hose to use any crevice attachments to get the baseboards, or up in corners, etc.  It also didn't pick up much on the hard surfaces.

  • I have a Kenmore Progressive--by far the best vac I've owned...and I've gone through several.  I have a cat & dog.
  • Kirby Heritage II, circa 1980s........ it. is. a. beast!!!

  • I have a Riccar vacuum. Its made in the United States and it's amazing... They are kind of pricey, but i have never had such a great vacuum..it also comes with a great warranty.
  • Shark Navigator and I love it.  It picks up everything.  I have gone through a lot of vacuums and by far this is my all time fav!
  • we habe a rainbow. i absolutely love it! would definitely reccomend getting one, however they are pretty expensive, but definitely worth it!
  • I have a Dyson Blueprint and I'm not too happy with it.  I think it's great at cleaning, but it's inconvenient IMO.  The power cord is shorter than my dead bissel, the hose is very short and not very stretchy.  We just got it last fall and part of the hose broke yesterday (not sure if that'll be covered by warranty).  We normally bought vacuums from places like Target but we were burning through them every 12-18 months for one reason or another, figured we'd shell out some good money to get a quality vac and for the price I'm disappointed.
  • We have a Dyson DC07. I'm not sure if they make them anymore since there is always something fancier coming out.

It is great for pet hair. DH is allergic to most animals with fur. Our house had two dogs in it before we moved in and between the vacuum and the steam cleaner, he's been allergy free.

It's a bit weird to figure out how to maintain sometimes, but I understand there are videos on YouTube. I'm probably just going to pay someone else to clean it out for us though. We've had it for 5 years and it's starting to finally wear down.
