Anyone use voice recognition software?

I am thinking about buying Dragon Naturally Speaking as I am working pretty hard on some carpal tunnel like wrists. Anyone use it? Thumbs up or down?

  • I have no personal experience with it, but it's pretty popular at the hospital where I work, so it must be decent.  You still have to make sure you proof read though because you can always tell the notes where the doctor used it and didn't.  There will be some crazy statements that don't make any sense until you read them out loud quickly a few times.  Kind of like that Mad Gab game.

  • I have used this with students. It is a very good program that we have had success with but for a couple of things. You have to be very diligent about training it to your speech. The more accurate you are with that, the better luck you will have with no mistypes- although, there willl still be mistypes. Background noise can interfere which has been a big problem for us using this program in the schools. We have had some issues with fan noise with some laptops in the past, but I think newer versions of Dragon have gotten better with that.

  • We looked at it, but the older guys in the office could not wrap their heads around it.  Until two years ago we were still using full-size cassettes for our dictation.
  • I have Dragon for my iPhone.  Does that count?
