Do any of you write much poetry?
I've written little bits here and there in the past but I'm taking a Creative Writing class right now and have really gotten into it and it's something I really enjoy.
Do you think giving poetry as a gift would be well received? I wrote a poem for DH for his bday last month and he loved it, and I just wrote one for my best friend this last weekend, her bday is today. I matted it myself and framed it (nothing super fancy, just nice papers in a small frame), but I feel kind of insecure about giving it to her. I am in no way a pro, but I don't think my stuff is crap either.
How would you feel about getting poetry as a gift? Was thinking about writing and framing something for my mom, DH's parents, and the grandparents for Christmas too...
Re: Poetry...
I would be touched if someone took the time to write a poem for me. It has a nice personal meaning and it shows you took time to really think about that person.
Other than that though "regular" poetry makes me snooooooooze. :-)
I don't necessarily enjoy writing poetry but supposedly I'm good at it, according to my creative writing teacher is HS. I tend to prefer writing fiction to poetry but I do understand poetry pretty well.
I wrote a poem for my two best friends my senior year of HS and gave it to them over Christmas - same as you, matted it and framed it as well as writing a note on the back. I also wrote a poem for hubby for our 1st dating anniversary.
I honestly would be touched if someone wrote a poem for me. I always appreciate heartfelt gifts like that over something that is simply store bought.
