time to get a new dishwasher??

H and I bought a house a year ago. The house is only 10 years old and i believe that all the appliances are original. I've noticed our dishes not coming out as clean as they should. I made sure there is jet dry rinse agent in there and I ran a cycle with vinegar in case there was soap build up. Even on the "pots and pans" things still aren't clean.

Are there any tricks I'm missing or is it time to replace it? TIA

Re: time to get a new dishwasher??

  • Make sure that when you start the dishwasher, you run the hot water in your sink for a minute or two, until it gets really hot. You dont want to start the dishwasher cycle with cold water. I make it a point to never use cheap dishwasher detergent--I always use Cascade. There should be a little floater thingy in the bottom of the dishwasher. Reach under it to make sure that there is no food stuck under it. Other than these things, I dont know what else your problem could be. You may indeed be in the market for a new dishwasher.

  • Try the stuff the pp suggested. Otherwise you might be in the market for a new one. Just because it's new doesn't mean it's quality. The appliances builders put in houses aren't usually meant to last very long. Around here (unless you buy the appliance upgrade or skip the appliance package and buy your own) the appliances are usually off brands or low-end models of national brands.

  • Thanks ladies, I'll try those tips and hope for the best!
  • I've also heard (haven't tried it myself yet) to run a cycle with Tang in the detergent spot to clean everything out.  It's supposed to work better than vinegar.
