How much do you aim for each day?

Do you simply divide 50k by 30 days and shoot for 1,666 words per day, or do you just write and if you're having a great day pump out as much as possible and skip some days? Do you think it's beneficial to at least write something every day? Do you save more for the weekends or when you know you have more time?

I think I'm going to shoot for 2,000 words per day because I know Thanksgiving week will be really hectic so I'll front load and then on the 29th and 30th I'll pump it out if necessary.

Re: How much do you aim for each day?

  • I always aim to meet the minimum of 1600 words each day but totally try to front load as well since the end of the month always gets crazy.

  • Hammer out as much as possible that first week because the second week tends to fizzle.

  • I'm not really sure where to aim yet. I know some days I am not going to be able to write...life with a toddler just gets in the way some days. I'm not going to stress about that. I am hoping to go to a few weeknight write-in's locally that will help me beef up my word count for those days I can't write.

Plus, I am planning on writing over my lunch hour some days and maybe (sh! don't tell the boss) when I should be working!

  • I am aiming for higher word counts early in the month (especially the first week) because work will start getting busy around Thanksgiving week.  I think it will be a great thing that MH works Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons next month :)
  • I'm going to try and get in 1,500 every weekday and then 3,250 on Sat and Sunday.

Like others said, I'm going to try and bang out as much as possible in week one because I hit a week two slump last year.

  • I haven't figured out how much I want to write each day, but I have been trying to "schedule" writing time for November.  I have class 2 nights a week and work late 2 nights a week.  Like pp, I'm hoping to use my lunch break to write.  I'll probably also do a ton of writing on weekends.  DH works most weekends, so I'll have plenty of time.

  • When I did it in '08 I did AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE in the first few days. I just sat and vomited words all over my computer. It's so helpful later in the month when you have a slump, or for those days when you just don't have time to write.

  • The last two years have started on weekends, which has been great.  I've aimed to be at 10K by the end of the weekend.  I try to write as much as I possibly can everyday.  I aim for 2,000, and will not walk away with less than 1,000.  On weekends I am to get at least 5K done in the two days.

Some days are better than others, and some days I don't write at all, but that's been very rare for me during the last two NaNos.  We'll see about this year, considering I've probably written a total of 10K words since last November 30!
