Am I like sbp?

Seriously with the airline thing and now this. I am so mad at Marriott right now.

I called today to see if there were fridges in the room so I could store my milk. The lady at the hotel was nice but told me they have them upon request. When I mentioned why I needed it she told me to tell them that so it would be prioritized instead of first come first serve.

The lady at reservation told me that it was not a medical need. So I asked if there was someone i could talk to. She sent me to customer service and the guy flat out compared breastmilk to beer and said that both were equally important reasons to want a fridge in the room.

I am really upset about this. I mean, obviously this is going to be difficult to try and manage if we don't get a fridge, but I feel like they were so mean. Am I being stupid? Am I now one of those parents?

Re: Am I like sbp?

  • SBP?

I would call and speak to someone else. That's ridiculous. Is this to get a fridge at all? Or to just ensure that you get one?

When I checked into the hotel in SLC, they were BEGGING a woman to take a fridge and she was like "Well don't you guys just have one down here I could store my breastmilk in? I don't need a whole fridge in my room ..."

  • Granted I'm breastbiased, I think that's pretty rude and I'd be pissed. Did you get that guy's name? I'd be complaining for sure.

We had to request a fridge when we were in DC and they delivered it no problem, Mike didn't even explain why. Did you ask at that specific hotel what the odds were that they wouldn't have a fridge available?

  • I would chalk it up to dealing with an ignorant moron who works customer service for a hotel chain and call back until you got somebody with a shred of intelligence.

  • Give me the phone number.   I'm just itching for an *** to tear up.

  • I think if they don't have fridges available, that's their prerogative, and there wouldn't be anything you could do, BUT since comparing BM to beer is ignorant I'd definitely have asked to speak to someone else. Since they do have fridges, you should have first dibs. Airlines consider pumps medical devices, and they don't count as carry-ons. Why should hotels be different?

  • I can understand a woman saying that it's not a medical need.  Like, if they have a hierarchy, I think breastfeeding moms should go behind people who have medications that have to be refrigerated, but before people who want to keep their dinner cold.

But I would have gone OFF on the guy who compared it to beer.  That is completely ridiculous.  I hope you got his name, and I would definitely call back and speak to someone else.

  • sam, I would love to unleash you.

I am glad that you guys aren't responding "that's crazy for you to expect a fridge".

I feel like I am going crazy. And I am exhausted with this. I don't want everything to be a fight.

That is what I was trying to do. I said "I understand that this is not a medical need to go over the ADA requirement, but in the hierarchy of things, it is more important than  say someone wanting beer in a fridge" which is when he said he was sure people who wanted beer wouldn't agree and that they were all as available requests.

  • I don't think you are SBP, but I think you are getting overly worked up about the everyday annoyances that surround travel.  You're going to drive yourself nuts.  Just call back later or call a different hotel.  How about a Residence Inn--fridges, sinks and room to spread out?

  • Is there a reason you have to stay at that particular hotel? I'm with Fallin; if they're being assholes to you, take your business elsewhere. To someone with a fridge in every room. That guy was an *** - I agree - and I might complain, but I'd rather go somewhere else anyway. I wouldn't trust them to give me the fridge even if they guaranteed it. Maybe *** beer guy is working the night you arrive and doesn't think you need a guaranteed fridge.

  • If I knew I needed a fridge, I think I would only book a hotel after finding out if there were fridges in the rooms or guaranteed availability upon request.

  • Beer guy was national, not at the location.
But yeah, we are looking for another hotel now. it is just difficult since it is a big event weekend most hotels are booked.

fenton, yeah I should have done that. I didn't even think of it when we were booking.

  • you must have been speaking to a res agent at a res center.  Call the hotel directly and ask to speak with the assistant GM.  They will make sure you are taken care of.

  • Thanks dawg. The hotel had diverted me to the res center and this was someone in customer service nationally. I will call today.

We looked and there are no other options for hotels though. We are debating changing things up for the weekend.

I think I may just go a couple of hours each day with Dagger and then go and do some visiting with people in the city and relax at the hotel the rest of the time. It will also keep me from having to pump at the festival, so it may just be best.
