Before we moved to NY I was a blonde and had gone to the same hair stylist for about 9 years or so. Right before we left I went back to my natural brunette self for the first time in about 10 years.
A few weeks ago I noticed the blonde color coming through the brown and called a new salon that had great reviews for an appointment. I went this morning and was really disappointed.
My appointment was at 9 and after waiting for about 15 minutes the girl at the desk informs me that someone screwed up and the stylist doesn't come in until 9:30 on Tuesdays so I will have to wait. I waiting for about 20 more minutes until they showed up. When he did show up he was really rude and didn't really listen to what I wanted. I showed him the color formula that my previous stylist had used (They both work in an Aveda Salon and she had written down my formula before I left and said it should be no problem for an Aveda Salon to match). He basically laughed at me and said that he would NEVER use some random scrap of paper with a formula on a first time client. (It was written on the back of her business card and she said he could call her if he had any questions).
He finally agreed to look over the formula and make some adjustments based on what I wanted. He got color all over my ears (so they are now brown-tinted) and did a really weird blow-out when he went to dry my hair without asking me how I wanted it styled. He was really rude while we were talking, I felt like I had to force the conversation and he seemed annoyed that I was even talking to him.
The color looks okay, it's not exactly what I want but it covered the blonde. I guess I'm just frustrated. Sorry for the novel.
Re: Went to a New Hair Stylist this morning
Oh girl, I would have left as soon as he said he wasn't going to follow her formula.
I bet it doesn't look that bad though. Post a pic
Aw that stinks. I can't imagine having to switch hairstylists (I guess I'm never moving...). In college I would drive home just to have my hair done and then make the 2 hour drive right back.
I'm sure it looks great though. FWIW, it will probably fade quite a bit this time too. I recently went brown, and my stylist told me it'd take at least 3 times before it stayed for good because blonde hair (especially when processed for a long time) doesn't take color well. Hopefully you can find someone more accomodating by then. I can't believe that guy won't listen to what you want and still gets good reviews. Go figure.
I would have left when they told me they screwed up the appt. Sorry you had to go through that. I am sure it looks fine, at least it will grow out eventually and you can try someone else.
I am glad I don't have to deal with dying my hair (yet anyway - maybe when more of those pesky little greys come through) and pretty much anyone can cut it even though it is hard finding a new and good stylist.
Definitely find a new salon (which I'm sure is what you're planning on doing). Is there anywhere you can place reviews for the salon?
