dry cleaning questoin

Hello ladies! I have never taken anything to the dry cleaners so I'm looking for some insight. I have this black dress that needs to be cleaned, but I'm not sure what to look for in a cleaner. So my question is: when going to the dry cleaners, what are things that you look for? Or, are they pretty much all the same.

TIA!

Re: dry cleaning questoin

  • In my experience, the only difference is customer service and price. I've never had an issue with an item not being clean, getting damaged, etc.
  • Yeah, I think they're pretty much all the same. Occasionally (depending on your area) you can find one that is a little more environmentally friendly than others, but they're few and far between.

There are only a few drycleaners in my area and they're all basically the same. The only one that sticks out in my head as being different is the one that only cleans men's shirts and suits. They don't want to deal with the beading, embroidery, delicate fabrics, etc that comes with womens clothes.

  • You should be fine anywhere but I prefer to use an environmentally friendly dry cleaner. They are becoming more common here and we have one less then a mile from the house. Ours is the same price as the big chains and recycles the hangers and such.

  • Most dry cleaner's are about the same. Do some comparison shopping and go with the best price and customer service. Also, ask questions about items.

Before you take the dress in, what's the fabric? Some things say dry clean, but the fabric actually does better in the wash. Also, is there anything glued on (beading or anything)? Some companies put the care tag on before they add embelishments to the garment, so it can say dry clean, but if you do, it could melt the beads or take anything that's glued on off.
