OH vs. NKY

Hi,

My family will likely be moving to the Cincinnati area in the next few months. I am hoping for some suggestions about where are the best places to live. We are looking for a family friendly community, where we can walk to get coffee on the weekends. We have two children, so schools are pretty important, as well as neighborhoods that are kid friendly.

If you live somewhere you love, tell me about it. If there is someplace you would love to live, I would love to hear about that too.

Thank you so much for your help! I am very grateful for any advice :)

  • Sounds like Mariemont or Madiera would be good options for you.  Both are walkable and have great school systems.
  • Ditto the above poster. Also Loveland, Blue Ash and Anderson would be worth checking out. They're not as small and walkable as Mariemont but parts of them are. They also have good school systems.

  • Another vote for Madeira! We live there and love it. Also check out Montgomery and Kenwood.

Every time we drive through Meriemont, I tell DH how charming it seems. I don't know how expensive real estate or taxes are there, but it seems like a great place to live based on what you're looking for.

    I wrote this!
  • Another vote for Madeira  or mariemont. Both areas are really nice and their schools are quite good. If Mariemont is a touch out of your price range, look into Fairfax--you'll still get mariemont schools but slightly lower home prices.

  • Reading is also an excellent area, close to everything, and has excellent schools.  Its right off 71, 75, and Cross County Highways, and has plenty of restaurants, parks, kid/family friendly areas.  GL!

  • You could also look at Wyoming. We live in Pleasant Ridge and love it.

  • I think the answer to your question depends on what your price range for housing is. There can be a big difference between neighborhoods. I don't have kids so I am not sure about the schools, but we LOVE Newport. We live in the East Row district where we walk to church/coffee/restaurants. It's really close to the Levee which has tons of stuff to do. We are renting an old historic house and are probably going to buy in the area in the next year. It's a great community and everyone is friendly.

    Just my two cents.

  • We currently live in Eden Park by Mt. Adams and just bought a home in Ft. Thomas, KY. We LOVE where we are now, but want a bigger home. I wish I could plop a bigger house right where we are, but we can't. We are excited about Ft. Thomas... they have great schools and still close enough to Cincinnati to enjoy the city life too. We're also still near the hill... which we love (Mt. Adams) :). Good Luck!
  • Thank you for your suggestions. I feel so much better having some places to start checking out :)
