After 12 years, I am considering saying buh-bye to the pill Nuva-Ring was one of the options my doc gave me today. Have any of you tried it or heard good/bad things about it?
Re: Okay girls... Nuva-Ring
I'm on Nuva-Ring and I LOVE IT!
I am bad about remembering to take a pill every day, at the same time and with the ring, you just put it in and you're good for 3 weeks. My periods last about 3-4 days and are never heavy.
It's also one of the lowest dosages of estrogen that you can get since its so close to "the source" if you will. So it doesn't make you moody or mess with your system too much.
I would highly recommend it. I'll be on it until HH and I TTC.
This EXACTLY!!! I have been on it for about 6 years now. I am horrible about taking pills everyday! I'm lucky if I remember at 2pm that I haven't taken my vitamin that has been in my pocket since 6am.
I've never had problems with it. I've never had it fall out and I pretty much almost never notice it's even there (neither does DH). Also, you only have to come off of it for one cycle before TTC.
Love it and highly recommend it!
I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)... it is lots of fun, let me tell ya. I have pinpointed two particular triggers-- stress and my hormones. I've noticed I seem to have more attacks starting two weeks before "shark week".
Anyway, I chatted with my doc today and we discussed changing bc methods, thinking that a constant hormone level throughout the month might help alleviate some of my issues.
I am glad people have had positive experiences. I am reading comments online and lots of users are either a) having really bad experiences; or b) crazy.
BAHAHAHA! Well that could be a possibility.
Both my SIL and a friend of mine used it as well. My SIL didn't have any problems and she's actually the reason I switched. My friend however, DID get KTFU while on it (with her husband, so not so scandalous).
I think everyone has something that DOESN'T work for them. Someone had posted about it previously (not sure if it was this board) and there seemed to be varied responses. The lower dose of horomones works well for me. I don't seem particularly moody (aside from my general disposition) and it doesn't make me sick, or crampy, and my periods are SUPER light (which is a big fat + in my eyes).
I'm not looking forward to going off of it next year to TTC bc Lord knows what my normal cycle will bring (I've been on BC for 10 years now and have not had a cycle off of it in that 10 years).
I hope that you find some helpful reviews.
ETA: Buckeye made me think of this... I've never had spotting on it. But I've never had spotting at all so I don't know if that would have anything to do with it.
I've never used it, and I don't want to. I don't like the idea of having to take it out and put one back in. Plus I have to have a higher does of hormones. This is the 3rd pill I've been on, all previous pills were low dose and I would bleed for 2 weeks every month. But thats what works for me, if you think the Nuva Ring would work better for you why not try it? I don't like reading reviews on bc because everyones experience are different.
I was on Nuva-Ring for a couple of months and I went PSYCHO. Estrogen (in any amounts, apparently) + Me = Bad. I doubt that normal people would react the way I did, so don't be turned off by my experience, but:
I was having panic attacks constantly; I was afraid to be alone because I was convinced that I was going to randomly die and nobody would be there to call 911 (when Matt was over on the weekends and would be taking a shower or something, I would sit outside the bathroom door because I was THAT afraid to be alone-- during the week, I was spending more time at work and just going to stores to be around people). I left work early one day and went to the MedExpress clinic because I thought I was having a heart attack. My gyno kept telling me that there was no way that it could be the Ring, but the symptoms stopped within a week after I took it out.
The mini-pill didn't do any of those things to me, so it must have been the estrogen. The mini-pill made me break out and lose hair like crazy, though, so I finally said heck with it and got a diaphragm. We keep condoms around, too.
I can't wait to see what pregnancy hormones to do me when the time comes.
