S/O Gubernatorial Debate

Did anybody else watch this last night?  Any thoughts?  I am curious in particular as to whether it helped anyone who was undecided make a decision on which candidate to vote for.

My main impression was that I was frustrated it was called a "debate" since there were no rebuttals and neither candidate responded at all to what the other one said during the "debate."

  • I have not watched it yet, but I will when I have a chance.

Based on comments from people who did watch it though, it sounds like the general consensus was that Jari Askins was the superior of the two.

  • I forgot it was on. Oops.

I'll find a way to watch it - I haven't heard much about it, but most of my friends could care less about this upcoming governor election, so I'm not surprised they're not talking about it.

  • I watched it. I felt the EXACT same way you did Critti, no rebuttals or jabs... in the end I was happy when Askins made a point of questioning Fallin's assertion of her stance on certain issues. That made for good t.v.

I think in the end the debate was in favor of Askins. Askins gave a great introduction and even made points on how Fallin is using Washington-based funds, I thought that was a great strategy.

  • I felt like Mary Fallin was a bit more direct in her responses, although both clearly gave very high level answers.  Jari Askin's closing statement was the only controversial part of the whole debate which would naturally stand out to viewers.

ETA:  Regarding Jari's closing statement, this was posted on Mary's website today:  http://maryfallin.org/news/view_article.cfm?ID=474

This probably comes down in part to a confirmation bias, but I actually felt like Jari Askins actually answered the questions for the most part, while it seemed to me that Mary Fallin just kept coming back to her big talking point about making Oklahoma more friendly to business.
