Birth Control question.

Hellooo :) I'm new to the nest board.. I originally hail from the knot board ;P. I need an answer concerning birth control..?

I've been trying out different BCP, trying to find the right one for my body. i was on the lowest dose of estrogen, and that didn't work. then they put me on levora, which contained tooo much estrogen.?

?Last night, i forgot the take my pill and tonight i purposefully neglected it again. This morning i felt pretty good, just like i felt while taking the placebos. not irate or distracted.. (maybe its just?psychosomatic??) ?

My fiance and i aren't currently sexually active, so its no concern with no pill and pregnancy at this time. My old pill pack ends on saturday, then i would start placebos.. so is it okay if until saturday i take no pills, then starting on sunday i start my new BCP, in place of the placebo?

my body is already pretty screwed up from the levora. i dont see why it would effect it too badly?

?

Re: Birth Control question.

  • I wouldn't worry about it. If you do have sex though, use a condom for protection.
  • Playing games with your birth control is really going to mess with your hormones. You should honestly be giving each set a three month trial because your body needs to even out with the new hormones. The first month is ALWAYS hellish. Unless its really messing with your periods, don't keep messing with the hormones. Its not good for your body.

Since you started skipping days I would wait til the end of the 7 day period then start a new pack. Taking some then stopping for a couple days and taking it again is really going to mess with your moods and possibly make you feel a lot of PMS like symptoms.

  • You could try Yaz. I love it! Its different hormones, or try a progesterone only pill. I would just talk to your doctor about it and see if they can make other suggestions.

I agree with AmyLane. The first few months I was on the pill I thought I was crazy. I honestly had pregnancy-like symptoms. I would crave weird foods, I was bloated and moody. I also had a lot of spotting the first month, but that's normal. After about 2 months I was fine. Like any new medication, it needs at least 4 to 6 weeks to get into your system.

  • Have you considered the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) or Natural Family Planning (NFP)?  It's a completely natural method in which you observe and chart your fertility signs to determine when you're fertile.  When you're not fertile, you can't get pregnant.

The difference is that FAM allows condoms or other barriers during the fertile period whereas NFP requires abstaining during that time (about 8-10 days per month).

I tried a few different pills and the hormones were just horrible for me as well.  Getting off of them felt like a veil was lifted from me.  I was living in a fog of headaches, etc.

I recommend that you read the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility."  It literally changed my life - no hormones and no pregnancy scares either.  Totally natural and effective.  We're on our 10th cycle and I'll never go back to hormones.

If you're not having sex now, this is the PERFECT time to start.  It takes a few months to really understand the method, so I'd toss the pills and start this when your next period comes.  Read the book first, of course ;)

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.  You can also find lots of info on the Getting Pregnant board (as the method also helps you get pregnant if used in reverse).  Good luck!

  • I just recently had a paragard IUD placed in September.  It is copper (which kills sperm) and has absolutely no hormones in it.  It did hurt when they put it in and I had cramps for the first 2 days, however now I feel fantastic and my body is able to naturally go through the cycles and I don't have to worry about getting pregnant.  (It is as effective as the pill and lasts for 10 years).  I'm no longer having the headaches I would get with the pill and I lost 5 lbs of water weight (or whatever it is).  I'm also not as anxious around other people.  It is a good option if you are not planning on having kids any time soon and don't want to have hormones in your body and don't want to remember to take a pill.

    Just a suggestion!
