Hey...Planning a beer tasting for DH's 30th B-day this weekend...Please tell me what you think of my plans....sorry for the length
Menu--We are starting @ 8 so I told people I was only doing Apps and we decided to do bar-type food so I'm having baked potato skins, chix wings (mild buffalo, old bay and honey-bbq) and pizza bites.
I'm also going to have peanuts, pretzels and candy bowls sitting around
On the food table, I'm going to print out and frame some interesting facts about beer I found.
For the tasting, I'm doing a blind taste test and printing everyone a packet which includes a page on Why and how to taste beer. I printed off scoresheets I found on the internet which basically scores the beers on a points system for different categories w/ room for notes.
Before we start, I'm going to do an icebreaker game--name as many beer brands as you can in 3 minutes--prize is a cooking with beer cookbook.
Half way thru the tasting I thought of doing another game--beer trivia...I made up a multiple choice quiz of beer facts I found--prize will be a 12 pack of beer (one of each that we are going to be tasting)
I also researched all the beers we will be tasting and found a little bit of information on each that I've typed up into another packet that I will handout once the tasting is done and I reveal what all the beers are.
What do you think? Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Re: Beer Tasting Party this weekend. Pls critique
I think this sounds fantastic!! We have done a yearly beer tasting for the past 6 years.. a bit different from yours (see bio) but essentially the same. I think you'll find the "break" or trivia in the middle is a good thing, otherwise people tend to get really drunk really fast (even if you are doing small tastings).. we started instituting a "food break" midway through the tasting a few years ago. Or maybe we're just getting older.. who knows
Good luck, I hope the party goes well!

I think this sounds great! I'd include celery and carrots w/ranch and blue cheese for some veggies, but without making it obvious you're adding veggies. Someone here recently posted a beer tasting event post on her blog, it was amazing. I wish I was at home to get it from my bookmarks.
But I think this all sounds like a lot of fun! I'd love to come!!
Do you mind sharing the scoring sheets you found online?
