Kill bambi or hangout with your wife???

Anyone elses DH hunt?  We picked our wedding day for September b/c that's when i wanted it but also because it was a good time around hunting season (DH and most of the guys in the wedding hunt).  This will be the 3rd weekend since the wedding, and DH is going hunting again!!!  I feel like i married myself Sad

We got into it this morning when he told me he was going hunting again on saturday.  I laid a guilt trip on him about how the only time we really have together are the 48 hours on the weekend (both work full time and he's going to school part time.).  In those 48 hours, he sleeps for at least 16, does homework for at least 3, and that only leaves 29 hours for me- when he's hunting that basically leaves 15 hours a week for me.  (I'm a numbers girl, when i break things down like that it helps to prove my point to DH).

To any and all other newlyweds out there who's DH hunts, I feel your pain.  I might just go watch the fBadger football game at the bar on saturday while he's hunting and get $hitfaced so he has to come out of his tree stand long enough to pick me up and take me home.

Ok, pity party for me is over now.  just wanted to vent

  • I understand the frustration as many of the women in my family feel the same way.  But to play devil's advocate, if he did this when you were dating did you think it was going to change when you got married?

  • moleson, i understand.  hunting season here (rifle/deer) hasnt started yet, so i have yet to lose gerren.  HOWEVER, since the honeymoon, gerren has been working two jobs to pay for some things for his truck.  no exaggeration, he has NOT HAD A DAY OFF since we got back from our honeymoon on sept 15th.  and it is not like, oh he works from 9-5 and i see him at night.  he works from 7-4 at one job and then works from 4:30-11:30 at the other.  EVERY.DAY.  so i have hardly seen him.  this week was better, as he is now back down to one job, so i have him at nights, and for one day on the weekend, but still.  this is his last weekend working both jobs, so after sunday, we will have weekends together again.  FOR 2 WEEKS and then hunting starts!  he already built a tree stand so he can hunt immediately after work (nbd, i dont get home from work/gym until about 6) but on weekends i know i will be second tier to his father/hunting partner.

i will lay on guilt trips REAL bad until he buys me something nice and takes me out. :)  just saying...

  • O doesn't hunt or fish or anything-- but at the wedding- my uncle who is from Tenn. pulled me aside and said that that weekend (the 24th....) was the first Bow Hunting weekend and that he was missing it so he and my aunt (who did my flowers) could be at my wedding--- so .... that was kind of interesting...lol

sorry I can't commiserate more on this.... I can offer the good advice that he probably can't hunt all year long.....you might get some time with him soon :o

  • Ohhhh yeah.  I am a hunting season widow as well.  K bow hunts, which has a ridiculously long season here, so every single Saturday from September 15 to January 31 from dawn til dark is hunting.  I used to get upset about it, but now I just deal with it.  I find other things to do - wine tasting with my girlfriends, shopping, cleaning the house, shopping, watching girlie movies, buying shoes, shopping - all the stuff he doesn't want to do with me - on Saturdays.

Occasionally, I will throw a fit and make him come out of the woods early to take me on a date or something, but for the most part, he's super annoying on the weekends if I ask him not to hunt and he stays home.  I'm sure he does it on purpose so I get frustrated and let him go next time.  Stick out tongue

I feel your pain, but I also know that it's what makes him happy - and he's providing food for us - so I usually let it go.

  • Thanks ladies.

Oh Ferdy, that would be awkward!  Did you apologize to him?? (That's being sarcastic!).

Like I said, i was just having a pity party for myself.  He was always a big hunter (before we got married).  but it was never like this!  Right now it's goose/duck season, bow season for deer, and then something else i can't remember. So he's doing 3 different seasons right now.  Last weekend he did one kind in the morning, came home ate, changed and then headed out for another kind.

     Men! Gotta love em!

  • **raising my hand**

Yes! I have a hunter on my hands! He usually only goes up the weekend after Thanksgiving and the entire following week for deer hunting. He has a mountain house and will occasionally go up through the winter but I usually just lose him for a week. (I know, I'm lucky)

The girls of the family (my SIL, cousin in law, and other cousin in law) all get together and have a girls night. Two of the girls are pregnant so this year will probably be low-key. Still it's fun to get together and hang out with them while the boys are away.

  • Oh no!  Why would anyone want to kill Bambi?  DH does not hunt and I'm glad he doesn't.  My dad used to when I was younger, until I threw a fit about him killing cute little animals.

I totally had that same mentality when K started hunting.  I love animals, and I'm a huge hippie, so I was really upset that he was killing deer.  Then I got to understand more about population control and preservation, and realized how much money we were saving by eating venison rather than store-bought meat and I changed my mind.  I like that I have meat from a source that is local, I know how it's processed, I know it wasn't bred on a death farm, etc.  Though I still don't like the details of it and refuse to let him tell me about killing the deer or anything.

  • Oh I know all about this even though David doesn't hunt. Unfortunately, I work in an industry where hunting season affects a lot of our staff, and many of them are gone on trips throughout the varying seasons. Must be nice?but not for their wives! I guess the tough thing is it's sort of like any other hobby but it's SO time consuming. You have to "log" a ton of hours just to get one deer! I would be really frustrated if I had to deal with it. There are coworkers of mine who have been out in the treestand when their wives went into labor and almost missed the birth. OH.HELL.NO.

Totally get why some people hunt. And as long as they are respectful and responsible about it, I'm OK with it.

I just could never do it. And don't like when people do it just for sport. If you're going to eat it, fine. If not, you don't deserve a trophy.

LITERALLY THIS WORD FOR FRIGGIN WORD

  • Yeah I totally understand it, I just don't want to see it.  I can't even watch Animal Planet because I don't want to see some of the shows on there.

  • MFD is a mummer, and this is "mum time" as the big parade/prize is on New Year's day. Plus he works a lot at night and on weekends too since he's a realtor and that's when people are available to see houses. So I've been alone a lot and riding the Wahhhhhhhhhhmbulance about it.

  • Sorry girly, this does suck, especially during your "honeymoon" phase.
