I'm strange....

Let me preface this by saying that I absolutely HATE HATE HATE spiders.  So here's where it gets weird...

We bought our house back in March.  Officially moved in the beginning of April.  The first time I went and opened our mailbox, there was this HUGE hairy spider in there just sitting on the little door... I freaked out and tried to kill it, but wasn't successful.  So eventually, I just decided to leave it in the mailbox.  It wasn't poisonous and it wasn't hurting anyone so whatever.

Last night, I get the mail and set it on the kitchen counter.  About 30 minutes later, I go to look through it and sort it out.  Out of a newspaper comes this giant, hairy spider and runs across the kitchen counter.  I freaked out and tried to kill it, but I missed.  So then I started thinking about how this spider had somewhere managed to thwart me TWICE and then I felt bad for it, so I caught it and let it go back in the mailbox.  Who does that???

I kept thinking "Aww, that was his home!!!"  So I put him back.  The day that Sara starts having emotions for spiders is the day that Sara realizes that there is seriously something wrong with her.

  • On one hand I say good for you for letting it live and putting it back in its home. On the other I would have smashed it flat! I hate spiders! lol

Two souls but a single thought; Two hearts that beat as one image
  • You're a better person than I...I would have killed that thing! The thought of not knowing if a hairy spider is going to get me every time I put my hand in the mailbox...eeek! I couldnt do it.
  • hahahahahahah omg!!!!!!  YUCK!  wouldn't PITA be proud of you putting him back in his home.  I would have hunted him down and squashed him and even possibly flushed him down the toilet! OR if he was that big, sucked him up in the vacumn.
  • Um, I get letting him go, but I can't believe that you put him back in your mailbox! Indifferent
  • But that's his home!!!

  • Grossness! I hate bugs, but I don't like killing them either. When I had the same students for two years I had one specific bug getter. He would get the bug on a paper towel or cup and take it outside.

That is probably what I would have done with the spider. I don't think I could have put it in mailbox, but I would have thrown it outside.

  • I probably would have put him back too since my reaction to you finding him in a newspaper was "oh no, he belongs in the mailbox."  He belongs in his home and it's not like he's hurting anyone.

  • I mean, he usually hangs out at the very back of the mailbox and doesn't really move much.  I usually open the mailbox pretty carefully to make sure he's not lurking and ready to pounce on me as soon as I open it!!  haha.  He just sits there and sometimes I say "Hi Spider!"

  • This made me laugh.  I'm a spider killer, not gonna lie.

  • I don't think I have any words for this.  Just Surprise Also, the fact that it sat on your counter for 30 minutes...what was he doing in there!? Plotting your demise I'm sure.  Spiders are evil.

I absolutely hate/am terrified of spiders. no way. I probably would have taken a bat to my own mailbox the first time I saw it. And if I realized I had carried it into the house and it ran across my counter? Dear lord...I would probably have a heart attack.

    But good for you! haha

  • And it may actually have been longer than 30 minutes!!!  He had every opportunity to get up and run and hide somewhere in my house, but he chose to sit quietly and patiently like a good little spider!!  If that doesn't call for me sparing his life, then I don't know what does!!

Your adorable and UM no way SQWISH!!!

  • SHIVERS!!!  I am terrified of spiders too.  Monday I found a big one on the bathroom floor.  I covered it with a bowl and waited for Jay to come home to take care of it.  I got a lot of teasing about that one.  No one beleives I can be a vet and still not be able to take care of a spider myself, LOL!  They didn't see it though...
  • EWWWW STU!! I mean, good for you and all, but EWWWW!!
