long hair

I always considered my hair long when it got to my shoulder blades. I usually keep growing it and cut it when it was halfway down my back.

Yesterday one of the teachers I worked with went home sick. When her sub showed up so she could go home I was shocked with how long her hair was. It went past her knees while it was in a braid! Kids in the class asked her about it and other kids in the school just stared.

I couldn't ask her, but I couldnt help but wonder, how do you take care of hair that long?

There's not a whole lot you could do with it, I would imagine. Wash it and then put it immediately in a braid. I'd end up getting so irritated with it always being in the way that I would end up taking some clippers to it. I think I'd rather have a shaved head than hair that long.

MIL's hair needs to be chopped off. It goes down to her butt. She only washes it like maybe twice a week and it looks like straw.... big, poofy, frizzy straw. All she can really do with it is put it in a ponytail. I told her that she at least needs to go get some deep conditioner to put on it, but she refuses.

My mom had her hair that long in the 70's mom was adorable haha! She kept it in a braid most of the time. UGH She actually got it cut because it would wind around her neck and she would dream a snake was choking her and it was causing her horrible headaches!

I forgot about that. MIL always has headaches because her hair is so long and heavy, but refuses to cut it.

I love long hair, but not that long! I had a friend in school who wasn't allowed to cut her hair (not her choice, her parents wouldn't let her because of their religion). I think her's came down to her butt. She chopped it off after HS though.

That is crazy! I could never let my hair get that long! Though I do have thin, bay fine hair so it would look like sh!t all the time!! My friend grew her hair down to her butt and then chopped it and donated it to charity. I hope the sub is doing that too!

I like long hair and am trying to grow mine back out. But that is just not attractive IMO. I think of my hair almost like an accessory - I always want it to look good, and if I'm having a bad hair day I NEED to do something to fix it, otherwise I don't want to be seen in public. If that means throwing it back in a ponytail with a cute headband and pretty earrings to distract from it, so be it.

I just don't understand why someone would want their hair so long, when they could simply cut a foot off of it and probably look amazing?

I went to high school with a girl who had never cut her hair. Her mom and her grand mother had never cut their's own. I don't know if it was for religious reasons or not. Anyways, her hair was down to her butt at that point. My mom said she saw her a couple months ago and her hair is now down to the back of her knees. That totally grosses me out.
