I need to get a really great Christmas gift for the teacher that tutors M. This woman gives up about an hour a day, 4 days a week, of her personal time to help M with his homework and make sure he understands the concepts covered in class. She also helps me translate more difficult parenting and emotional concepts to him and keeps an eye out for any signs that he's having difficulties processing anything--related to school or not.
She does all this completely of her own volition. It's not part of her job, and we do not pay her. When she can't make it for some reason, she even feels really bad, and makes sure to cover anything we might have missed on another day.
I really want to do something special for her, but I don't know her well. I know she is a devout Christian, is married, has two grown children in the armed forces, and has her blind, adult brother living with her. That's not a lot to go on.
Any great ideas for something we can get her or do for her to show her how much her selfless help means to us?
Re: Gift Help
This may sound sort of cheesy but I think that you should add to whatever gift you get her a letter from M thanking her for her time and generosity. I think that kind of thing will be something a person like that would enjoy having, especially once M is all grown up.
You've got a little time to subtly ask about how she likes to spend her free time. Is she a reader or a sewer or a knitter? And get her something based off that.
