Re: Home Alarm??
SIL and her FI just got one (they live on our street). It's through Guardian. The installation cost them $800 - that included glass-break sensors on the downstairs windows and the whole house wiring plus motion sensors for most of the downstairs (their downstairs is about 800 sq. ft.) The monthly bill is $28.
The installation and monthly costs all depend on the features you opt for and there are a lot...
We've considered getting one of the DIY (non-monitored) systems for home, but haven't done it yet. I just can't imagine paying so much up front, plus $25+/month and then knowing that the system isn't even mine (in many/most cases you're just kind of 'leasing' the system and they will yank it out of your house if you ever stop service or move). I'm a cheap-ass though and I don't like people messing with my house.
At work we use Habitec and have been very pleased with them, so I'd consider giving them a call if you decide to look around.
We just had a small home fire this summer, so in the repair process we've been shopping alarm systems also.
We spoke with asset protection service and they quoted us $1200 to install and then $15 a monthly fee, and it included everything.....motion detector, all entry ways and windows, emergency button, etc. But my FI wasn't very impressed with them.
He also recently met with Habitec. Sounds like they will be less to install but more monthly - but all the same services. BUT FI really liked this guy he met with.
I also contacted Bigelow Security in Sylvania. I had done a board topic of this on Toledo Talk and a couple people recommended them. However, they were horrible at returning my call, so that made me lose interest quick.
Good luck. I'd love to hear if you persue this and who you go with!
