Is it true?

According to iVillage, about half of you would rather spend time cleaning than with your MIL!

Re: Is it true?

  • Let's just say, I like cleaning better.

  • Cleaning. Even if I wanted to spend time with MIL, the fact would remain that things need to be cleaned and I don't have a lot of time. Now, if the option included merry maids doing the cleaning, that MAY be another story...
  • I voted clean.

I don't really like my MIL, and I like a clean house.  Walla.

  • I guess I'm a lucky girl. My MIL is AWESOME, and I absolutely adore her. She and FIL are coming to visit this weekend and I'm super excited!

  • I like my MIL.  I think she is the bomb.  She raised 5 boys, so she is tough as nails.  She goes out of her way to stay out of the private lives of her sons.  She has a great dry sense of humor.  I would want her as a friend even if she weren't my MIL.

My MIL sounds very opposite of yours. I would rather clean. :D

    I am so jealous.

  • The last time my MIL came to my house for dinner she burst into tears and ran out of my house while I was chopping vegetables for an appetizer while lasagna was baking in the oven and spent 20 minutes on my driveway saying "I didn't really want her there" and "she didn't know why".

After I talked her down from the proverbial ledge she climed out on, my floors weren't waxed, my toilet wasn't shiny and my rugs didn't have any vacuum marks.

    Darn.

My darling daughter just turned 4 years old.
  • No way I love my MIL!

  • I had an awesome MIL. For the time I knew her- she was like a second, cooler, mom than my own. She helped me pick out my wedding dress. Told DH that if he divorced me- she'd get me in the divorce. Told me that I was the best thing that could have happened to DH. She adored me and I adored her- which was even better because DH was a mama's boy and we spent a lot of time with her.

Unfortunately she passed away shortly before our wedding. I'd give just about anything to have another visit with her. :)

  • Cleaning...because I have to do it anyway, and at least after the afternoon is done, I'd have a clean house I can relax in.

FWIW, my relationship with my MIL is strained but I can be cordial for an afternoon. I don't hate her.

  • I would actually rather ingest cleaning products than hang out with my MIL.
  • Count me in for scrubbing all the floors with a toothbrush first!  But she never comes to my house anyway (and I mean never).

    Wow!

    LOL.

  • i wish there was more to clean!!!
  • I picked clean, but really it depends on if it is 1:1 time, or we're hanging out with my DH and his family.  If it's 1:1 absolutely I pick cleaning.  The two of us have *nothing* in common other than we both love my DH.  But with family around she's tolerable.

  • My motherinlaw sobbed hysterically and screamed HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME to my dh the day after we got married (meaning us getting married). Among many other things, she once put me out in the hallway to eat Xmas dinner alone at a tray table while she seated my dh and children and the rest of the family in the dining room.

I would really rather consume cleaning products than spend time with her.

SO SINGS MY SOUL *WHAM!* MY SAVIOR GOD TO THEE *WHAM!* HOW GREAT THOU ART *WHAM!* HOW GREAT THOU ART *WHAM!*
  • I picked cleaning, but I should have done "special snowflake."

DH's mom passed away when he was young.  I would LOVE to have had the opportunity to meet her and spend time with her.

DH's stepmom is what I guess would be considered my MIL.  I would rather stick large pins in my eyes than spend time with that b*tch!

  • VERY TRUE!!!!
