I feel like a horrible mother
I just noticed that Alexander's front tooth has a chip in it. This is new, and I have no idea when he did. I literally want to cry about this. It's a pretty big chip too, and I don't want him to go through 6-7 years of having it. I'm going to talk to the pedi about what options we have with a dentist to fix it.I know it's only cosmetic, but I was tortured as a child over having buck teeth and mine were discolored from taking so many antibiotics as a child (so the dentist said). I don't want Xander to go through anything like that if he doesn't have to.

Re: I feel like a horrible mother
Oh Dana! I'm sure it will be okay! Definitely talk to the pedi or maybe a pediatric dentist. I bet it will fall out well before he could be teased about it.?
FWIW, my friend's 10 month old slammed his two front teeth on the bathtub water spout and they went sideways and they had to jam them back straight and the pedi/dentist said there's no permanent damage so they can take a beating!?
Thanks Summer.
I'm off to BRU tomorrow to get even more safety proofing stuff now. I have all the sharp corners covered, but now I'm going to cover all the edges. I was trying to not go nuts with it all, but Alexander has proven that I need to.

You're not a horrible mother! I bet it just happened today or yesterday.
FWIW, my four front teeth were pulled when I was young b/c my mom said I wouldn't go to sleep at night w/o a bottle of apple juice and they rotted. They didn't grow back for 4 years; I was toothless at least until first grade, and I'm not permanently scarred by it! Believe it or not, the only "teasing" I remember is from adults, who would sing "all I want for Christmas is my four front teeth." I don't even remember any kids saying anything.
I got the spout cover as soon as we took him out of his infant tub. The outlet plugs were all covered once he started to crawl. This week we have been installing the cabinet and draw locks since he can pull them open now, and on our to do list for the weekend is to put a higher shelf in the laundry room so we can put all the cleaning products up there. He will need to climb up the freaking wall to get to them now. Although the way he's going I know he will figure it out.
Thanks for calming me down everyone. Andrew kinda just laughed it off and that annoyed me and made me want to cry more. I know that is just a typical Andrew reaction, but what I really wanted him to say is, we will baby proof everything even more now. Andrew does agree that we need to talk to the pedi and start looking for a dentist for the baby. I'm just debating if I wait until we are there on the 7th for his flu booster shot, or if I call them tomorrow to see what they say.

Dana, he could just as easily banged his tooth on his own bottle at the wrong angle. It might not be a "baby proof" scenario.... he just gets into stuff, like little crawlers and toddlers do, are SUPPOSED to do, to be able to figure out the world! Chipping a baby tooth is far from a bad outcome of that curiousity! Besides, remember, he's smaller now... in 4 years, if he still has the chipped tooth, his head and body will be bigger and the chip will be smaller in proportion.
You're not a terrible mother by any stretch, and I'm certain you've already excellently baby-proofed your house! Baby proofing is about protecting him from extreme and serious damage. He's going to get cuts, bruises, chipped teeth, etc, for the next many many many years! It's part of growing up!
This!!
And another FWIW story, as babies dh and I both rolled down our basement steps (you know the ones with linoleum and the metal edge on them) in our walkers. Both scenarios took place during parties at our homes where our mothers were distracted but still that is pretty crazy. Also I chiped my permanent tooth in third grade and had it filled in that week, until it was filled none of the other kids even really noticed it and it was pretty big.
I'll just add in my own lost my 2 front teeth story, to help you feel better. When I was 3 I tripped and fell into my rocking horse when I was about 2 steps in front of my mom. Knocked out one front tooth, the other was hanging. Went to a ped dentist who pulled the other one. Had 2 fake teeth made to fill the space. Every year at dance recital time they would have to take them out to clean, so every year until the adult ones grew in, I would have these pretty dance pictures and no front teeth.
So don't worry you're not a bad mom, you just have an active little guy!

Dude you are a great mother. Here is my tooth story. When I was about 4 or 5, I was in my brother's room across the hall "borrowing" something, when I heard someone coming up the steps down the hall. Not wanting to be caught red handed, I made a bee line for my room...straight into my bed. And because I was/am such a peanut, my face hit the metal part of the bed frame and my front baby tooth literally went back up into my gums. I still remember crying my eyes out in my mom's arms while she was on the phone with the dentist or someone. It bled for a while, but I was fine. The tooth eventually grew back in and then my older sister did me a favor (
) and knocked it out so my adult front tooth could come in.
No permanent damage. At least it brought my bond closer to my mom? Kids are resilient. I wouldn't worry too much.
Oh and Rebek, my cousin's kid had to have his four front teeth pulled because his were rotting out of his mouth too! He is just now getting them all back in.
