Recipe and a clicky poll!

I made this for dinner last night, and it was amazing. I substituted 2 1/2 lbs ground turkey for the beef, but otherwise I stuck to the recipe and it was delicious.

So my question: How much of your cooking do you do in the crock pot? Because I definitely fall in the 90-100% range.

Re: Recipe and a clicky poll!

  • I always love my crock pot recipes but I don't use i that often. I think I am paranoid about leaving it on while at work all day. I probably use it the most to make queso for parties and whatnot.
  • I used to do more cooking in the crock pot, but Aaron won't eat chicken or turkey anymore, and all of my crock pot recipes had some sort of meat or poultry in them. If any of you have any good veggie recipes for the crock pot I would totally appreciate it!

  • I love my crock and use it as often as I can!! Its so nice to come home and have dinner ready! I have a recipe for a breakfast casserole I'd like to try overnight soon!

  • Pretty much everything we eat for dinner can't be made in a crock pot. I mainly just use mine when we have church dinners and such.

  • It's funny you posted this because I was thinking I'd go buy a crock pot today!

I've tried cooking overnight, but the smell always keeps waking me up! :(

And apparently I am a culinarily-challenged freak who relies far too much on her crock pot... Haha.

  • I like to do sweet potatoes in the crockpot. 4 or 5 of them. Fork them in several locations. Then wrap them in foil place them in the crockpot and cook for 8 hours. They are awesome and makes your house smell great. Serve with butter brown sugar and cinnamon. Yummy!
  • I love the crockpot, its so easy during the week. I would love to make more in it, so I'm always on the hunt for what you can cook in it!
  • I will be using ours a lot more now that DH and I both have jobs with more normal hours. I am going to be too exhausted to cook a full meal when I get home from my new job.

I can't wait to use the crockpot recipe book I got for my bridal shower!!

  • I'm terrified to leave mine on when no one is home so I only use it on the weekends if at all.

  • I answered in the 50% range, but it's hard to tell how much I really use it because I cook so sporadically due to DH's crazy cop schedule.  I really use it quite a lot and LOVE IT.  I'm not afraid to leave it on at all and everything I've made in it is delicious.

  • I don't know of enough stuff to make in the crock pot and like everyone else, I'm worried about leaving it on with no one home.  Plus ours doesn't have a timer or anything like that so I think things would get over cooked.

I can't help you with the fear of fire (I just make sure that mine's not touching anything and that there's a good amount of space on all sides), but you can get an outlet timer that will automatically turn the power on and off at certain times. They sell them for "burglar lights" and things like that.

I use one with our non-timer crockpot sometimes. I like to bake potatoes in the crock, but they only need to be on high for a couple of hours, so I put the pot on high and plug it into the set timer. The timer only lets the electricity through to the pot a couple of hours before I get home. Obviously this would not work for foods like chicken, which would spoil. Ick!
