Getting Sick! Help!

I can feel a cold coming on. My nose is running, I have the start of a raspy cough, I'm exhausted all the time. The thing is, the timing is horrible. I have about 5 days until I start an 80 hour week followed by another 50 hours in about 4 days. I can not call in sick.

What can I do to fight this and keep it from becoming a full blown thing?

Re: Getting Sick! Help!

  • Sorry to hear that! Drink lots of orange juice and vitamin C. Robitussin is also very good and they have different formulas to fit each symptom and theraflu is good too. Try to get a little rest if you can as well.

    Hope you get better soon!

  • I have the same thing. Its not full on sick but I can feel it. I would say drink lots of orange juice and start taking meds now. Aleve cold and sinus works great or thera flu. Hope you are feeling better B. BTW, I sent you a PM when you get a chance.

  • My aunt said to take vitamin C, cinnamon, and Echinecea (excuse the spelling). You can buy cinnamon in the vitamin aisle at the store, and if you don't want to take the caplet and you can break it open and put the cinnamon in tea or coffee. It should kick your cold out of your system.

  • If it turns into a full blown cold, my friends swear by Mucinex.  Alternate taking the two kinds every four hours (or whatevs the package says, I'm no doctor!)

I can't vouch for it myself bc unless I'm dying I don't take meds, but that is what they recommend everytime someone comes in all sniffly and coughing.

  • Definitely load up on the Mucinex and Zyrtec or Benadryl. The Mucinex comes in various mg formulas, but you can take 2 of the 600 mg tablets to equal 1200 which is prescription strength.

Eat some chicken noodle soup. There are studies that it helps colds and that sort of thing. And I know its easier said than done, but try to get some rest whenever you can.

  • I second the vitamin C recommendation and I would also recommend Zinc. This is what I have done the last time I have started to have colds coming on and they only lasted a day!

  • Zicam.  Seriously.  The minute you see signs of a cold, start the Zicam.  I PROMISE that it makes it last half the time.

The last time D got a cold, he gave it to me.  I started the Zicam chewables right when I got it.  He had it twice as long as I did, which is weird cause I usually keep a cold for WAY longer than other people.

The old Zicam sprays taste horrible.  But those chewy ones come in Strawberry.

Also, Airborne.  It works.  My entire family uses that to even ward off a cold.

And of course, OJ.  That's lots of vitamin C.

Chicken noodle soup will at least make you feel better emotionally.  LOL.

  • Thanks so much ladies I'm pretty sure the lady at Walgreens thought I was trying to make meth or something with all the crap I bought. I'm feeling worse today than yesterday but I'm guessing that it didn't help to be at work last night with the hot stove/kitchen and then the cold air from outside blowing in. YUCK.

    Hwrd- Back at ya!
