S/O QOTD: Pet Peeve

Hope I don't offend anyone here, but it really bothers me when parents of infants (I mean teeny-tiny) trick-or-treat with them.  It is fine if they have another kid with them (and even then, I think it is weird if they have a bag for the infant) or if it is someone I know who wants to show off the cute costume, but random strangers bringing their newborns to my door and wanting candy irks the hell out of me.  I want to say to them, "Go buy your own damn candy.  Yes, your baby is cute, but he has no teeth and I don't want to feed you."

  • Hahahaha I have never seen that but I agree totally. I can't believe you've had someone with just a baby come to your door wanting candy.

  • Agreed - totally tacky!

  • Not one person...several.  Every.year.  This is one of the reasons I don't get excited about handing out candy...we live in a nice neighborhood in a relatively not-great town and people drive to our stree for trick-or-treating...as such, we attract some *interesting* people.

  • This year you should have a seprate candy bowl for them that holds crap from your junk drawer... Yeah random old batteries or old dead pens. I'm mean like that though. Then you'd have a clean junk drawer and they might learn their lesson.
  • You could print out this list and hand it to the parents with candy highlighted.

The top choking hazards among foods are:

    • Nuts
    • Hot dogs
    • Grapes
    • Hard candy
    • Popcorn
    • Raisins
    • Raw carrots
    • Spoonfuls of peanut butter
    • Chunks of meat

  • Omg for you carrying 3 babies with 3 bags would be a feat.

  • MO--you would fall under the category of people I know who come to show off the cute costumes...and I will give you three whole bags of candy if you come to visit me for Halloween!!

  • I find it completely annoying as well. We had one family with an infant last year who came to our door, but they had an older child and only a candy bag for the older child.

MO would of course be an exception. I would love to see her carting around three infants in costume and carrying three candy bags.

  • I don't give candy to the tiny ones i give them baby aproriate things like zwiback toast, those gerber puff things, and even a few jars of baby food have been given out cause then I am feeding the cute one not the person who is just along for the ride
  • That has always bothered me. When I was younger and handed out candy at my parents place it would happen several times in one night, most of the time they at least had an older child but sometimes I swear, it was ridicules. Than again, our town was know for having the highest teen pregnancy rate in Western Canada. If it happens often at your place I'd say you should get something like pablum pouches (or something along those lines) and give that to the parents with infants.
