AW: Guess what I rode in yesterday?

Ok, it wasn't this actual helicopter, but it looked just like it! We went to a Army Guard training camp and they picked us up in a Chinook. It was awesome! I got to sit in the bucket seat behind the pilots and listen to their conversation on headset.
We interviewed a bunch of really neat people at the TC and even got to eat lunch (MRE= Meals Ready to Eat) with the Guard. It was a great day!

I'm jealous.
How was the food?
If you respect the military for no other reason, respect them for what they have to eat every day. I got "spaghetti" and you get a little warmer packet to heat it up, but it doesn't get the whole thing hot. It was worse than Chef Boyardee (sp?). Even the Guard members felt bad for us (they were eating sandwiches, but the officers wanted us to get the full experience).

Yeah, I could never subsist on MREs, though I have an ex-boyfriend who was in the Army and actually likes that crap. But he's a little weird.
And thanks! That photo was from E's birthday when we did a historic pub crawl.

this!
I got MRE's for my students last year from my BIL. He got us a whole bunch of different ones. I learned the heater thing has to be in there for 20 minutes or more to heat the whole thing up and the smoke it emits smells nasty. Some of the food wasn't too bad.
I also had to confiscate the matches out of all the packs, lol!
