I miss our community. How are you all doing? What's new in your lives?
I just discovered cottage cheese pancakes. I gained an obscene amount of weight over the past year, trying to bury my stress in cheesecake. I'm trying to work it off. We love pancakes in this house and my son begged for some for dinner. I searched for healthier alternatives and found these:
1 cup cottage cheese
3 eggs
1/3 cup flour (next time I'll use a little more, this didn't seem like quite enough)
1 tbls oil or melted butter
mix and fry over low-medium heat. The texture is a little different but served under syrup and fruit they pretty much do the trick. Full of protein.
I'm doing good... my practicum at the Ministry of Children and Family Development is going well. I was worried about doing child protection but I actually really like it. I'm pleasantly surprised by the amount of services offered to keep families together. Some of the families just need a bit of help (usually financial, sometimes respite care) to keep their kids. I'm halfway through now and I'm hoping to get a job but we'll see.
My husband is still working at home (yay!) so that's great
My son is doing well, growing like a weed. On the weekend he found my six-year-old sister's pink t-shirt in our guest bedroom and put it on... and hasn't taken it off since, except for bathtime when I wrestle him out of it and slip it in the wash. Too funny.
Re: should we do a check-in?
I'm here and doing good. I don't have a position yet but I've been getting lots of subbing. Yesterday I even taught junior high and high school gym. Not my expertise but I made it through.
We are still in LOVE with our niece and nephew and picking Christmas gifts for them has been lots of fun. After looking so many places in person and online I am buying a used Little Tikes rocking horse for our nephew and a Leap Frog Scout and we're buying a little shopping cart for our niece and a Leap Frog Violet.
Shortly, some of my burp clothes and bibs are going to be up for sale on my friend's cloth diapering/baby goods website so we'll see how that goes.
We officially started TTC this month but I still have about 8 days till I can test so we'll see if it worked on the first shot. I know it's highly unlikely so I haven't gotten my hopes up but yet in my spare time I have managed to completely plan and shop for (haven't bought anything though) our nursery. I have a mood board and a room plan all mapped out because that's just who I am.
It has been extremely "dead" on here recently. Hopefully things pick up.
Yeah its been super slow on here ... its sucks.
I am doing good ... enjoying life now that wedding planning and home renovating craziness has ended. I feel like my house is actually a home now and I am working on small DIY decor things around the house. I have been cooking and baking alot lately too.
Still working out alot but I am concentrating more on what I am eating as I still have 40lbs to lose before I will be content and healthy. We are planning a couple trips: Costa Rica in March, B.C. to visit H's family in July/June and New York City in November. I hope all of them work out. It might be tight but I think we can do it.
Thats about it for me!
Krista- congrats and good luck in 8 days!
Divallyn- 40 pounds. me too. ugh.
Hi ladies! Not much is going on in my life. My FIL died of cancer last month, and the aftermath has been a bit of an ordeal. We hosted Thanksgiving for DH's family, and my very first turkey turned out pretty well. In November I'm going to be taking on more work and sending DS to daycare twice a week -- thank goodness, because being stuck inside all winter with a tantrumy, whiny toddler is not going to be fun!
Yeah, I could stand to lose about 50 lbs too. I've been whining about my weight for, oh, about a year but can't seem to get my butt in gear to do anything about it. Why by May 21, stewie?
I'm doing well! I have finally gotten over the initial stress and overwhelming feeling that accompany taking over for a teacher a month into the school year, so that's a good thing. My class is super sweet!
I too need to start working out again. I feel like I have slacked on that this past year and I really want to get back into a routine.
Hi so I'm new to posting on the nest. Had a few posts on the knot. I've been lurking on the boards for a while. I live in canmore Alberta and work for Parks Canada. My hubby and I got married this past sept and we are "settling" into married life. Waiting for a house to open up so we can move back to banff.
Aw, that would be so cute!
Of course you can, tell us a little bit about yourself!
Welcome! Thats awesome that you live so close to the mountains! I live about 2.5 hours from Banff and I adore it so much there. Its my Dh and I's escape when things get to crazy.
My little brother is getting married and I don't want to look fat in the pictures. I know its really shallow but its a good motivator. And also, if I lose the weight, we will start trying for #3 then. Unless I can trick DH into agreeing to it sooner.
Welcome newbies!
We used to be a reasonably busy board but then many of our frequent posters left and we've been dead ever since. Post often and help get the board moving again!
wow awesome! we did Costa Rica in Feb of 2009 it was AWESOME and we went to NYC this summer! Great picks for vacation spots
I have been working hard and working on the house too. My desk moved so my boss can see my computer screen so not much nesting at work for me :P
I am new to the board! Took me a while to find it.
I am currently enjoying life and trying to be really happy with what I have not dwell on what I want.
Coming up on the 1 year anni of boyfriend and I living in our little house.
I love my new job at Inn and Spa (front desk) but it sucks that my hours go from fulltime to 1 shift a week right when its getting close to holidays. So Ive decided to make a lot of Christmas gifts rather than buy them.
I really hope this board gets more active!
I can't believe she's already a year old! Where did time go? being back at work will get less exhausting after a while (or maybe you just get used to that being your normal?) Good luck!
Haven't posted much here, but I'll keep this thread going too!
I'm a teacher (4th year now), and the teaching is going well. New unit for one of my science courses so that's keeping me busy. I also am doing the vocal direction for our school musical "Aladdin" which is a TON of work, but it's so nice to be doing something different. Because I'm in the science dept., it's rare that we get to do something from the arts dept. I am vocally trained, however, and they needed someone, so here I am. I feel like Mr Shue from Glee - it's such fun work.
On the home front - been married for just over 2 months, starting the house-hunting process (speeded by the fact that our rented condo had flood damage from our next door neighbours and we don't have half our flooring or baseboards), and just enjoying the married life, without kids, without pets, just us! We'll get to all that stuff...eventually!
I haven't been on much the last few weeks. I am staying with my mom right now and we leave on Friday (eek 4 more days!) to start our move to Edmonton. I'm getting excited but nervous too. Trying to make sure I tie up all my loose ends here.
DS is getting big, and hitting the 2's for sure. He listens when he wants and does what he's not supposed to. However he makes up for it everyday when he's being cute and melts my heart. He suprises me every day with new words and just all around is a goofy boy. He's awesome.
DH is getting very excited for our move. He's still working 2 weeks on and 1 week off so we will still be apart a bit, but when he has his 1 week off he doesn't have to spend the time flying to come visit us, or trying to find somewhere to stay.
Happy Easter

Hi! I'm new here too. I only recently found the Canada nestie board and have lurked a bit...so I thought I'd take this as an opportunity to come out and say "Hi"!
I live in Ontario but I'm originally from the east coast (Nova Scotia). DH and I got married about 3 and a half months ago and we have a little boy - he's 1 and a half.
Look forward to chatting with you all!
Welcome! What a beautiful family you have! I love the name Zachary! Hope to chat with you more!
Happy Easter

Thank you! I'm hoping to be around often. Good luck with your move - exciting times!
I've been lurking more myself these days. I think part of the problem is I participate on too many message boards, and I just don't have the time!! lol
Lately things have been really busy around here. DH and I are in the process of moving to Halifax, NS but we're still trying to sell our house and he has to leave in 2.5 weeks. He's totally stressed, because he doesn't want to leave his pregnant wife behind in the meantime while the house sells!
Work has been really busy as well, and I can't wait to be done in 2.5 months!!
Wow, that's so exciting!! Good luck with the move and DH leaving. If you want to chat let me know, obviously i'm in the midst of the same thing too!
Happy Easter
