name change - sort of a dumb question
hi ladies,
so on my marriage certificate i changed my last name to DH's. but since we're heading on our honeymoon next month (international), i haven't changed my passport, SSC, license, etc.
however, i've recently come into an inheritance and they want to know my legal name. my mom claims it's legally DH's last name... but if i haven't changed it with SS, DMV, etc... is it still my maiden name? or is it DH's last name because i signed the marriage license with his last name?

Don't worry, not a dumb question at all! It gets confusing. I believe your legal name is your DH's name now. When you go to change your name with SS, passport agency, credit cards, etc. they all ask for your marriage certificate to show proof of your new legal name to make the change. So I think your mom is right...
