Switching from BC to Condoms?
I'm thinking about ditching bc pills. I'm currently on Loestrin 24 and have noticed it has effected my desire for sex. I talked to my OBGYN and she said that there isn't a lower dose of bc pills that she could prescribe and that, essentially, I would just have to deal with it.
I eat healthy and exercise regularly, I've had yearly checkups, I don't know what else could be the culprit of my decrease in desire for sex. Before I was on the pill my period was highly irregular, so I don't think I could do the family planning thing.
Have any of you stopped taking the pill and opted for condoms instead? Did it help? TIA!

Re: Switching from BC to Condoms?
Your doctor is full of crap if she told you there are no lower dose birth control pills out there. Seriously. Do some research. Either she's an idiot, or you completely misunderstood what she said.
Personally, my sex drive has never been affected by the pill, but tons of the women on here can attest to that being a negative side effect, so if you are having issues, switching to condoms could really help.
Are you married? Are you okay with getting pregnant? Condoms are not the most reliable birth control method, since they can break. Are you prepared to do the morning after pill if this happens? Also, most people do not use condoms 100% correctly, which is why it has such a high "failure" rate. Do some research in the proper way to use a condom to ensure no accidents.
I was on Ortho Tricyclen Lo and April of this year I stopped taking it. DH and I sex life increased like 10 fold. I was incredibly sensitive down there and nipples were like whoa as well.
I missed my period by 8-10 weeks and finally got back on track. I tried to start back on them but My sex drive when down and really dried up down there.
Good luck.
The pill killed my sex drive as well. I use family planning. It actually would be perfect for your irregular cycles. The rythm method would not (I think you're confusing the two).
Take charge of your fertility is an amazing and eye opening book.
Just FYI, the pill has the same issues. Neither are perfect birth control methods.
As for the OP, you're already on a low dose pill. I'm wondering if your doctor meant that the other low dose pills may have the same effect on your sex drive. Going off of the pill did help me, but you do have to be extremely consistent with condoms (just like you do with the pill). I agree with other ppl that Taking Charge of Your Fertility is a necessary read.
switching from BC to Fertility Awareness/ condoms (during fertile time) was the best decision for me! I get people telling me that they couldn't go back to using condoms again but I always say that my sex drive is awesome now and that shuts them up.
Even if you decide later not to do FAM, it is something worth learning about. I thought I was very irregular until I learned about my cycles and started charting them.
Good luck!!
Maybe you could try switching to a low dose pill with a different kind of hormone. I took Yasmin for years. When my insurance changed and it essentially wasn't covered, I switched to Loestrin. UGH! My skin changed, my sex drive changed, I had bloat, and PMS.... (sorry maybe TMI). When Ocella came on the market (generic Yasmin) I switched back. Thank you, back to the old me. I've also taken Yaz, the lowest dose, and like it as well.
I have PCOS, so my periods are never regular off the pill. Using condoms only would just stress me out wayyyyy too much.
