Do you still have them? If you got them pulled how bad did it hurt? Were you awake or asleep while they pulled them?
I get mine pulled Nov 19. Not sure if I want them to knock me out or not. I am kinda nervous about getting them pulled though.
Re: Wisdom Teeth
I woke up crying (I think most people do when they're coming out of anethesia) but other than that I didn't have a whole lot of pain. I was really chipmunkish looking for about a week.
On one side of my mouth I had a ton of pain and we were about to leave on vacation. My mom drove me 2 hours to surgeon to see what was wrong and they looked in my mouth, took a pair of tweezers and pulled a little chunk of tooth out of my healing gum.. Instant relief.
I would probably recommend to be knocked out for it, but that's just because of my experience.

Taking Control:Updated 1/7
I had the 2 upper ones removed when I was about 22. I was put out for it and I am glad I was. I didn't want to know anything that was going on. Both of them were impacted and as a result, and they got into some of the bone and nerve. As a result, I had some serious bruising of my face. I looked like someone had punched me. I refused to go out of the house or even to work until the bruises healed.
I was in terrible pain for at least a week and was on pain meds the entire time. I was so scared I was going to get addicted, but the pain was unbearable. I would wake up in the middle of the night when it wore off yelling for my parents to give me some more. I had to go back to the oral surgeon and they figured out I had dry sockets. I couldn't eat solid food for a week. I lived on applesauce, yogurt, rice and potatoes.
It eventually got better. I don't want to scare you bc everyone is different. My dad had his out as an adult and he was fine. He ate a steak for dinner 2 days later. My sister had hers out and she was fine after a few days as well.
See I have heard good and bad stories. I am leaning more towards them knocking me out but not sure. I had a tooth pulled a couple years ago and I was awake for it but I dont know if I could handle them doing the back 4 wisdom teeth while being awake. I appreciate the experiences because its good to know what to expect or what could happen.
i got my top two out when i was little. i don't remember how old... maybe 8 or 9? and i have no idea why i had to that young. i was put under and i remember them telling me that my mom had to leave the room and i was getting upset as i was falling asleep. when i woke up i was hysterical because i was afraid they made her leave. but i don't remember the pain or anything beceause it was so long ago. and i have to get one of my bottom ones taken out soon.
i had a tooth (not wisdom) taken out about 2 years ago. it was a tooth that was blocking another tooth from coming up. H was with me and i was fine knowing he was in the waiting room. i was anestesia drunk when i woke up but other than that i was fine and not in much pain. i didn't even need the pain meds they gave me. i just used ice packs and all was ok.
i also have had teeth pulled (again, not wisdom) without anestesia and i don't reccomend that. i didn't feel anything because they used a crap load of novicane but i could hear it. they were breaking and cracking the tooth as they were taking it out. it still gives me the creeps.
i know neither of those were wisdom teeth so i'm sorry if thats not helpful. i also think that everyones mouth reacts differently. one of my SILs had a horrible expierence and the other SIL and H were smooth sailing and not very painful. from everything i've heard, i'd definitely say that being knocked out is the way to go.
Honestly I would have them at least give you some happy juice if not knock you out all the way. Thats a lot going on to be awake for.
I still have mine. My kids killed my teeth so I've lost a few molars & my wisdom teeth moved right into the empty spots.
This last one to come through has been trying for 3 years. Its miserable but now its finally starting to get better.
I had them yanked when I was 17. I don't want to scare you, but I hated the whole experience. I was knocked out, and wouldn't have it any other way. The Dr prescribed too much penicillin, and I was sick for about a week, it was horrible.
My H's experience though was totally different. He was put under for his too, but was talking and eating that day. Lucky.
I had mine out at the end of college. I was knocked out for it. For sure. If you are going to be digging teeth out of my gums, I do not want to be awake for it!
I was definitely glad I went with being knocked out, I had no problems with it, other than getting a little sick later in the day because of the anesthesia (and possibly all the goop during the surgery).
I did have drainage the week after that was kind of yucky but I just rinsed my mouth out with some Hydrogen Peroxide with water and it helped to clear that up.
My parents had my brothers do one of those wisdom teeth removal studies. I think they were both under. I remember my older brother saying some pretty funny things.
I went to an oral surgeon when I was 18. I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth and was totally under and remember nothing until they were putting me in the car to go home. I would not have wanted to be awake.
I had several complications. The pain meds made me sick. I got a dry socket. (If you suspect you might have a dry socket, go back right away. They fill it with this clove stuff that makes it feel better!) I swelled up like a chipmunk. But, the worst was my chin. I ended up with some bruising on my nerves and my chin was numb for 10 days. I was scared and talked to my surgeon and he said that was pretty common and that it would go away in about 10 days. It did!
I don't want to scare you. Most people don't have all the issues I had. I mostly wanted to tell you because if you do get any of them, they are normal and can be easily fixed or go away on their own.
Good luck!
ETA: It sounds like yours are not impacted, which will be a lot easier. I would probably still want to be under though!
I had all four of mine out two or three years ago. I was put out for it, which I would really recommend. I have no recollection of the surgery part, lol, just waking up without those teeth. It went really smoothly.
As far as recovery goes, I was expecting much, much worse. I had some soreness and acheness that was able to be controlled with just regular over the counter pain meds (Extra Strength Tylenol). It seems like I couldn't open my mouth all the way for a few weeks, but that wasn't really that bad.
The worst part of the whole thing was when I decided to try taking one of the Vicodin pills they gave me. I almost passed out just laying on the couch!
I was able to have mine pulled out since they were growing in. They said it would take a second or two and there was no reason to knock me out. I told them to f off. KNOCK ME OUT. See, I am a wuss when it comes to dental crap.
I woke up sitting in a reclining chair, drooling all over the place. And that was when we realized that I was allergic to anesthesia.
It's almost here! Weeeeeeee!

Planning Bio - Woefully out of date
Knib- That is crazy. I freaked out coming out of anesthesia when I had my knee surgery cuz I thought I was waking up in the middle of the surgery lol but my husband said its only a light sleep so shouldnt be bad but that wouldnt be a good way to find out your alergic.
JB- That is the plan. I plan to stock up on lot of ice cream, pudding, jello, popsicles. yummy.
Hwrd: That came later that day. I kept having the same sickness that I had after back surgery. After the back thing, they thought it was me having a reaction to the Morphine and took me off that and switched to Demoral.
Turns out, it was the anesthesia. So now I know to tell the doc that I have reactions to it.
